Absolutely nailed it, Gizz. I haven’t read past this post yet but you have got spot on as to why so many potential members can’t be bothered.
Car clubs are a relic of the pre-social media past. Their original purpose was to organise driving and social events long in advance, when postage was the only effective communication. All of that is easily organised online now and drives are all the better for being casual and impromptu. We had a brisk and challenging drive today - and Adrian wasn't too far behind! Had it been an FCA event, we'd have been doing 60kmh behind a procession of 488's then sat down over coffee and listened to people talk about the cost of their chalet in Austria or similar BS.
That’s exactly my point Ian. Myself and a handful of others here, are organising our own, non sanctioned drives. There’s really no need to be a member of the club, as the only benefit is club rego. and most of the cars are all on full rego anyway. I can now understand why Horse and others can’t be bothered any more. The essence of the car club is gone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
100%...That’s why I don’t associate with clubs Ian...I don’t deal well with wankers...I have to work with plenty under duress in the Airline industry....Wish I could have made today ...Hopefully we can all get together in July...
You’re right. But... The club will still get my money each year because I enjoy the one or two things I can go to. But the truth is I joined the club because I want to do track days and have access to events / offers that I otherwise wouldn’t. I’m not interested in driving sedately for 15 minutes and then stopping at the next coffee shop for an hour, then cruising for another 20 minutes and then stopping for a two hour lunch. However if that’s what the majority of people want to do, no worries. That is no reflection at all on the people I’ve met through the club who have all been very friendly and nothing like Rob hilariously describes. I’m also aware that a major part of the problem is my work - I missed out on what would have been an awesome event at The Bend recently simply because I couldn’t get out of work. That was EXACTLY what I joined the club for, so it’s not their fault I couldn’t go.
I would love to Gizzi, I was talking to one of the boys about it on the last drive, JM or Wes I think. My trouble is I work in partnership with my brother so we generally organise time off on school holidays so we are both off at the same time. So it makes it difficult as we are a 2 man show. From what I've seen on our drives it would be great fun, especially after a few beverages!!
