Yeah, that was my fault. He said he was going to Bellingen, and he thought I said, "Wear the fox hat".
Perhaps Much of what Ian has written is correct ,clubs for many are in the past and many of us prefer our own friends on our owned planned drives. However in certain States in order to have a car on Club plates ,club membership is required .One needs to pick the group you wish to enjoy your OHOS/MHOS with if that is at all possible in today's world. For a short period I had my cars with an Italian marque club in Victoria (not FCA) The experience left me with mouth ulcers , the club was controlled by once again people who self-promoted there own cause cause , the club magazine was a tour guide of this fellows car holidays , yes he was new to the scene and to be honest a boring one. I suggest the secret to any club is the committee and keeping the clubs membership under say 100 members. The current club I am the secretary of is a great group , we exercise our cars , the committee of 7 which includes 5 current Ferrari owners 4x 599s and a GT250 are a united group and it reflects upon the members . I of course am a humble person ,my club car is an old 20k roughy , yes i could buy anything I wanted but that car suits my needs .We have none of the chalet nonsense and yes like many I could have a chalet in the French Alps , the 150 metre super yacht and the Citation jet .We enjoy our cars and the drives away from the latte set. However I do agree with Ian ,the best drives I have ever done are with 6 to 8 friends drives over 4 to 5 days with 500ks done per day we call it " The Gents Fine Dinning Rally" where a group of friends drive and enjoy life. Photos for you to enjoy and share with your loved ones. photo one is that group , many faces will be familiar photo two 1966 A once great club that lost its way RROCA, just got to large .In the photo myself, parents and my adopted sister her father Don .Busch was killed a few years latter in a North American P51 fighter ........mother some UK heroin rock chic.. photo three said P51 at Berwick airport. Its gone sadly ,late last year a cam chain sprocket broke ,I turned her off........................hardcore call 10k car with a 10k rebuild ,I gave her to my mechanic as a gift ,he now tows his cruiser behind her . So I bought another Porker . I prefer the RR and if I had my time again I would have repaired her. Image Unavailable, Please Login
So............ clubs become to large in size IMO both the Porker and the AFR have become clubs for new models and said owners , models few others could careless about , the saving grace is model registrars where owners of similar models chew the fat . Sadly with increased values "the carby ' group died as owners sold for profit O/seas .It was a great period which served a perhaps and i will always look back on those days with a smile . The Rolls-Royce owners club is the same where owners mingle within registrars ,the secret keep the club small and have a constitution which will give you the right to keep others out of membership.
