Yes there is a distinct seem. I was going to leave it as is, but it almost looks like something is missing without the bonnet insert. Thats why I may have matt black PPF inserted there. I don’t think it’s a plastic insert though, someone can chime in with the car.

It is plastic.Easily wrapped if you prefer the black over body color.

It is painted (thick coat) or vinyl. Hard to tell on my car (I have looked at mine over and over can unless I tried to peel it back - not 100% sure. I still think it looks good and makes the lines look better IMO

It was not a separate piece on the car I looked at. There was an indentation stamped into the hood (coined) to accommodate paint or a decal.

You are absolutely correct. Definitely not a separate piece.

Do you think that this black trim has any sort of 'anti-glare' characteristic in it's intent or is it just designed as a cosmetic folly?

I believe the latter. Certainly not folly, but redundant/superfluous maybe?
I didn’t order it on my upcoming Spider.

Do what YOU want & think is right. Don't let me nor anyone else tell you otherwise.
It's your car & you're paying for it.
I try to not tell people what they should or should not order on their cars.
Besides, there are enough individuals around here that will tell you exactly what you should and shouldn't order. ;)

Spec’ing a car primarily for selling is like choosing a bride who will be more amicable when you divorce.

I am scheduled for a test drive in the Spider on Saturday. I will look very closely at the bonnet insert and report back.

COLL option states the word "insert " by the official order price list from Ferrari. Painted insert.

Interesting to see all the cars in TSOYBELIS's picture above have the upper bonnet insert in matt black.

Why this question keeps coming up I don't know. Its a thick coat of flat black paint.

The factory likes this option. During Atelier they pointed out to me that it visually lowers the bonnet/glass line and accentuates height of the wings.

So why isn't it just stock that way? No one would question it if it was or was not an option. Buyers are typically not designers and something like this is best left to the folks that made the car.

    Potato, potato, tomato, tomato.

Stylistic elements are surely best left to the buyer - no?

Its just a painted strip - black or body

Never seen a stripe at the top of a hoodline be stylish or optional. This is just a confused Manzoni design department. It takes a designer in a studio to point out the subtle illusions of lowering glass lines and accentuating wing heights. After 20 minutes you just give them the money to keep your head from spinning. People want easy stuff like paint, racing stripes, CF, seats and shields. The rest they can design themselves but then maybe they are asking for help?

What about a black roof? Stylish, or optional :D

Does it make the car look lower, or taller?

While we're at it, triple layer paint y/n, racing seats w/wo Daytona, inserts leather or Alcantara and black or contrast, silver or diamond rims ??????

    We all need help :p

Your not getting my point obviously. Nothing you mention is as subtle as that bit of the hood. My money is that the designers couldn't decide if it belonged one way or the other and just called it an option. Its not like you can add one anywhere or use a different color. If you deal with the retail public its common that less is more and folks feel better about their purchases.

Perhaps the design team presented two versions and the bean counters stepped in with "that sounds like a new chargeable option to us"!
