The F40 has taken an age for DVLA to register in the UK. Finally it’s come through but not in time for a planned track day last week at Thruxton. I decided to drive there in the Ford GT40 and have the F40 trailered.

My first time at Thruxton, and it’s a very fast and tricky track to learn with hardly any corners that use the traditional racing line. There’s no real run off apart from grass and then trees, lots of fast blind crests. Most are a compromise to set up for another corner and I wasn’t going to explore any limits there in the F40. So this footage is me enjoying the F40 using the Cambox POV helmet cam, but not pushing much at all but gives a good idea of the sound and experience, which I loved.
Mine has upgraded brakes so they worked well, the balance was lovely, plenty of grip and feel.
I also drove my mates 4.0 RS, sadly he didn’t offer a go in the Zonda!

Looks like you Ad an amazing time!
Curious what mods you did to the F40 to set up for the track other than brake upgrade?
Did you corner balance or change camber, toe, etc?

    Zonda = Holy Grail

Just kept it stock. As you can see this wasn’t a serious lap time assault. Just wanted to experience it on track safely.

Completely different. F40 is a delicate brute.
GT40 is a brute full stop.
The control weights are heavier, steering especially. Sound is immense. So loud and harks back to Le Mans 1967. It’s a cool thing.

F40 is easier to drive, beautiful steering full of feel and easier to place on the road.

what i really like about this is that you are on track. and presumably, you drove it from home to the track, and back again. you actually dared to use the car !!!
i am so so so tired of the misguided celebration of fantastic pieces of machinery with no usage.
we love them because they are rolling artwork, but they were created with an intended function.
to leave them sleeping under a cover, with the occasional photo shoot, in some kind of weird stasis is almost criminal in my opinion.

Is that an Alpine 110S running away from the F40?

Yes, certainly was. It was driven by a touring car racer and was hilarious. It pitches and rolls so much.

I was new to Thruxton and if you don’t know it, it’s one of the UKs fastest circuits, with flat out sections that have blind crests, no straights, very bumpy and no run off with plenty of trees to hit! An old school track.

I wasn’t going to push the F40 to anywhere near the limits there with its value and not knowing he track...and the Alpine was absolutely on the limit and beyond.
He pulls on those flat out corners.

I was happy to have a bit of fun that day and stretch the legs of the 40...I save the very fast driving for the race cars.
