    Agreed. Wondering what the rest of the story is. I assume it's somewhere in the fuel system...but you know what they say about assumptions...

    Just was hoping for a longer read after that provocative thread title.

    And now for the rest of the story... :)

    The first picture is that of a "replacement" fuel filter and it's associated (nylon?) sealing washer that screws into the fuel inlet port of an Autolite 4300D carburetor. The OEM part uses a metallic crush washer. This one was replaced 6-8 years ago as part of a carburetor rebuild. It apparently heat or age fatigued and cracked - allowing a steady drip of fuel onto the hot intake manifold. Needless to say, we are now safely back to the OEM washer...

    And, other than the hood, that's all original paint that would have been scorched!
