I don’t care about name. Mick is a marginal talent in F1 terms. Ferrari and Alfa have said this in other words. If he arrives the record is obvious. He has not dominated as a major talent so far.

No but his name brings notoriety and potentially mega sponsorship $. It might be worth it for one of the minnows.

The fact that this thread is still going strong speaks to the gossipy nature of F1. What do people talk about? People? What do (most) people find interesting about people? Their money. How else do you explain the Kardashians and the Strolls?

It's a sports opinion forum. What do you expect?

Add Norris to that list and Gio. Add the known Jr drivers yet Stroll is in year 4. I’d remove Perez he is old news has limited future outside of Cloners Point.
Add Latifi. So Jr drivers for 2 seats.

Norris and Russell for me based on your criteria. Gio is Stroll - Esqe in terms of capability nothing stating F1 talent in great quantity. Gasly would be my third choice. Albon is hit and miss much like Kvyat.

The next group of F2 will replace some off that list via Red Bull or at Williams, Renault. Future - I see Gio out, Kvyat out, Albon moved down if he progresses as is now. Stroll is staying due to family. Latifi now has new owners to deal with. Can barely handle the Williams vs Russell maybe 1 more year left unless wealth gets him another seat.

I think we know there can be caveat that in F1 he will do well. We have seen other drivers come out of Jr series and do well. It is the gaining entry to F1 that is important and making the most of that first terrible car lol :) I do think he has improved in F2 this year but is not at the top just yet.

    Agreed on all.

His father didn't set the world on fire until he sat in a F1.

True but his case is particular. He did his apprenticeship two years at Sauber Mercedes in sport prototypes with teammates, difficult to detect.
However there was no indication of the 1991 spa explosion.

But Michael Schumacher was apparently spotted as "something special" by Willy Weber during a wet race where he crushed the opposition, so the legend goes.
Weber took him under his wing, financed some of his drives and became his manager for the rest of his career.

I did wonder how long it would take you to put your hatred for Schumacher into this thread but it's finally made it.

    Good choices

I wish dad would buy him a team for Indy just for the 'eck of it..... :)

edit: Speaking of which, only 15 1/2 hours 'til "The Greatest Show on Earth"..... errrrr....I mean "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing".....
Seriously tho', it might just be a really good "show" this year. I'm feelin' Sato, but it is the spec/kit cars doncha' know and they're pretty close in speed so one never knows.....

I don’t know why you’d pick Russell over Stroll? The only place they competed against each other before Russell arrived at Williams was in F3. Stroll won 14 races the most ever in the championship and Russell won two. Stroll ran away with the Championship, Ilott finished second and Russell was 3rd.

As predicted lol - Boss of the Red Bull driver programme Helmut Marko says Daniil Kvyat is underperforming, but he won’t be replaced yet.

Isn't his seat virtually assured by Russia? Aside from the sponsorship they want their audience at their race. I think Kvyat sucks but for the reasons mentioned he'll be driving a F1 as long as he wants to. Putin pays.

Not sure that Putin really has this as priority lol. Marko is issuing a veiled warning to Kvyat that when new talent is found, he is gone

    STROLL: I’M LOVING IT

    https://www.grandprix247.com/2020/08/24/stroll-im-loving-it/

Lance Stroll is loving the fact that he has a competitive car in this season’s Racing Point RP20, allowing him to mix it at the sharp end of proceedings after a couple of dismal seasons, performance-wise.

During an interview with the official F1 site, Stroll acknowledged, “I’m loving it. It’s a great season up to now. The car feels great and it’s a pleasure to drive.
“It’s great to be where we are, we have a very competitive package, we’ve scored some good points up to now, so a positive start to the season.
“We knew back in Barcelona at winter testing that we had a strong package, but it’s always relative to the others so you never really know until the first race. When we showed up to Austria we knew we had a strong package.”

That “package” has been the focus of a Renault protest which has grabbed headlines as the car has been dubbed Tracing Point and Pink Mercedes as it is an admitted and unashamed copy of last year’s title-winning Mercedes W10.
But that’s not raining on Lance’s parade, “At the track, I am here to do a job and I’m very driven to do that. When not at the track I generally try to disconnect and relax, forget about racing a little bit. It’s about compartmentalising that. At the end of the day, I am here because this is what I love to do.”

There is a school of thought that with the right equipment Stroll can do the business in F1, making a case for him being in the top flight irrespective of his father’s deep pockets, and has proven so on several occasions.

With the RP20 he has the confidence back, which lacked in the more recent cars he drove, and now he is delivering on track with some spirited performances that have him fifth in the F1 drivers’ points standings, with a podium due him or his teammate Sergio Perez in coming races.
Furthermore, the team his father Lawrence bought for him lie third in the championship standings and have a very realistic chance of remaining there as the season progresses.

But Stroll is not allowing the newfound form to go to his head, “You are always learning. I don’t think there is ever a time, in racing, where I feel completely settled, I’m always trying to progress as a racing driver.
“I have a lot more experience now than when I first started and I feel like I’m in a much better place, but at the same time I’m always looking for what I can do better, what’s next,” added the 21-year-old Canadian.

Jenson Button gives his nod to the Stroller.

He's okay with Stroll in F1.
