I think it would be cool with a separate thread dedicated to F8 adorned with stripes. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
for those who are contemplating stripes. this is the process im going through. 1.if u" stripe", it may make it more of a cop magnet, on the plus side---it attracts more eyeballs. Makes your F8 look unlike all the rest of the F8.( boredom issue) 2. Stripes will make your car less conservative, less "classy" in others eyes. You are committed to the car being a toy, race car , sport car , plaything. The Pista haters as well. Past that. 3. How it will affect resale and will removal of the vinyl wrap be needed, will it damage the paint /Expel to any degree when removing. 4. Design. For me a bi color stripe is too "cute". Im going for a solid stripe. It will look like 2 stripes, instead of one if i went with a bi-color one. Still deciding on the width dimensions. the entrance of the s duct, stripe is 2/3 of the scale vs the hood stripes. So maybe a bit odd. Will decide on the best width (+_ 1-2 cm) 5. Color: yellow stripe/ over red. these are close to each other in the color spectrum , they go well together. Im deciding on the right shade of yellow and make of the vinyl. 3m or Avery. Leaning towards the lemon yellow( similar to the yellow in the F shield). 6 the ceramic pro needs to be removed in the area( tricky..but told a micro polish should do it).. so the vinyl adheres well.. 7. Am waiting on several vinyl samples and will do a dry run( cutouts and lay over the car) and decide on the final look to achieve. Need to get it done right the first time. 8. Hope professional installer is perfect. Other thoughts?

The F8 sound is more tonally pleasing but it is not more heightened. I doubt it would meet your approval unless it would be substantially elevated in volume.
Went for a 3 hour drive on a scenic laden, isolated pastoral road yesterday evening and the engine note appears to have increased in volume. My wife independently came to the same conclusion. Every occasion I get behind that singularly superlative wheel enhances my appreciation and affection for this car.

I drove the F8 yesterday. Can’t compare it to a Pista but it definitely sounds considerably quieter than a regular 488...in fact my heart sank after driving it. The F8 is fast as hell but the sound is a major step back. Sorry to say. I was considering ordering a F8 coupe or spider. I ended up buying a 2020 Superfast.
I have heard that When new, the more the F8 is driven, it burns out some of the filters for pollution And the sound increases some. I just sold my 488 and taking delivery next week on my F8. Have driven both and found a small decrease from 488 sound. I have only driven low mile F8,s so if this is correct I expect sounds, once broken in, to be very similar.
The sound of the F8 does increase in volume after 400 miles of driving. The tonality of the sound is heavenly and is music to the ear.Drive it in race and manual mode, keeping the revs after 4K and the engine note will be highly satisfying, save for those who prioritize high SPLs above all else. The driving dynamics are so capable and engaging, that my affection for this car increases with every drive.
To the best of my knowledge, the only pollution filters on cars are catalytic converters. They are actually honeycomb-shaped cells and retain their integrity (physical and chemical) throughout the life of the vehicle. I can't explain why (anecdotally?) a car would get louder upon break-in or over time. In any event, congrats on your inbound F8 - I'm sure the wait must have been excruciating!
Agree with everything you’ve said but my experience even w/ my 488 is that the tone has increased as miles are put in. There have been several posts I have read with recent F8 owners who have had the same experience. Hope it is true.
If only there could be an objective measure to determine whether the car does get louder with driven miles or not.....Hmmm... How about recording a video of the car sound with a decibel meter with the car right off the lot and then after subsequent mileage? To clarify, the F8 has, in addition to catalytic converters, they also have GPF (gas particle filter) that may play a major role in the muffling of the sound. With that said, Ferrari sales associate claims that the F8 is 10-15% louder than the 488 GTB, Obviously, up for debate. Other source has actually documented that it is only 8 decibels louder than the 488 GTB . the truth of the matter is that the days of NA sound are, unfortunately, over. They are now even creating speaker assisted exhaust sounds through car speakers to give you the impression, not only for electric cars but also for ICE, turbo with electric assist motors... If the sound is what you are after, then there you have it. To make matters worst and being one of the leaders in the industry, Porsche already introduced a rev limiter so you don't rev your engine in neutral past 3.5k RPM unless launching. All to save the environment and prevent burning more fuel" unnecessarily". (But it is perfectly acceptable fot Dicaprio, Travolta or any other ultra rich person fly their private jets to to other states or countries for a meal; or their float their yachts to theFrench Riviera for a "Save the Planet" meeting with all the richest of the richest). Went off track.. Sorry Bottomline, if you want to confirm whether the F8 is not as loud or less loud than the 488 GTB? Video with decibel meter and put this one to rest. if you want to make it louder? Get an aftermarket high quality exhaust and lower your expectations. It will never sound like a 458, 812 superfast or any other NA high performance engine.
They dont get louder, you learn to “listen better”. Like listening to the bass on Taxman, over time it becomes fuller...
My 458 Spider got louder after a few thousand miles....l had the dealer block the vacuum lines so the muffler baffles stay open all the time. The bangs, pops, crackles and growls under 3,000 rpms are truly symphonic.
This one was wrapped by RDB for rapper Yo Gotti. I bite the side of my hand in jealousy, this is so gorgeous. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
All true, but I have driven the F8 and 488 back to back and have heard others drive them, and comparatively, the F8 engine note is mannerly and lacks range. No matter what some FOS sales associate or "source" says, the F8 is not nearly as loud as the 488 - and that's inside (with compensating "hot tube" lol) and outside. Never. Ever. Great car, though.
8 db louder does not mean twice as loud unless the original SPL was 8 db. If the SPL of the F8, for example, is 100 db, and the 488 is 108 db, then the latter would be 8% louder. You might be confusing amplifier power required to increase the sound pressure level of a speaker. For an increase of 3 db of sound pressure volume of a loudspeaker, requires double the amplifier power.
Interesting article about sound reality vs perception... its what you think you hear up to a point... Image Unavailable, Please Login
The above extract is overly simplistic when it comes to sound perception for the average person with normal hearing. The frequency of a particular sound is a significant determinative in the perception of sound pressure levels. The human hearing mechanism is most sensitive to midrange frequencies ( human voices and animal sounds) and much less so in the lower ( bass) and upper frequencies. Evolutionists theorize that human hearing has evolved to be particularly acute to sounds that would involve peril and potential danger. The limit threshold of human hearing in the upper frequencies, for example, severely rolls off at 10khz and reduces further as we age. Canines for example as well as many other animals can detect sounds as high as 40khz which is necessary for their saftey and survival. Therefore, a 3db increase in bass frequencies (100hz and below) and the same for frequencies above 8khz, will be barely perceceptible to the human ear. However, a similar increase at 1000hz- 3000 hz, will be immediately discernible. The F8 engine sound is predominately centered in frequencies between 400hz - 2500hz with a steep roll off, ranging from 6db - 12 db below and above those frequencies. Therefore, its perceived loudness level would be maximized since those frequencies are at the point where human perception is at its most acute.
Does it really matter if the F8 is louder than the 488? Or even more quiet? If the owner enjoys the sound of the F8 then that’s all that matters. And it looks like the owner (Coincid) does.
