The best sounding Ferrari engine ever?

I've just spent the better part of a month figuring out why my Ferrari engine doesn't run right. So for me, the best sounding Ferrari engine is mine, now that I've fixed it. I didn't even realize I haven't smiled at or with my 360 in a long time. I was on a test drive yesterday and I did a U turn into a lot of traffic. I had to wait in the median until there was an opening and then VAROOOM! First gear, shift at 7k. Second, to 7.5 K. Third, matched traffic easily. Found myself smiling from ear to ear. So ya, my Ferrari engine is the best sounding engine ever.

the 360cs is the best modern ferrari sound. there can be no argument there.

as for vintage......the 250 colombo engine is very musical

333sp? Maybe the f50 gt1? I guess they were both based on developments of the 412 f1 motor. Both sound amazing. For road cars the 355 is hard to beat... The 360 and CS lost something when they got rid of the short crossover bypass in the 355.

And it got better as it got bigger.

330 is even better. 365 is better yet. Which also depends on how the exhaust is muffled.

The Columbo v-12 is the Ferrari sound.

The best road Ferrari I think is a V8, the 355 with Tubi. The best sounding as in highest pitch Ferrari is one of the modern normally aspirated V10 cars. The 312PB and all the boxer 312 F1 cars also sound very nice. Also any of the P2-P4 330 cars sound amazing. Never heard one in anger but those boxer 1969 212 hillclimb cars must have sounded high pitched and wonderful. I like race engines so I like high revving motors. Honorable mention 1957 V12 315-335's sound amazing, but they are not driven very hard anymore.

A 355 usually gets voted as the best sounding Ferrari. I think it came out on top in a FChat poll also.

Of course all relative, my ear prefers the 'higher pitch' sound so my vote goes to F355 for road car:

    F2004 for race car:

    Just my subjective picks.

I really dislike the Doppler F1 wail that sounds like a Junkers Ju 87 Stuka dive bomber.

Especially when compared to the Columbo sound in the film Le Mans. That movie got it.

Two completely different sounds. The latter is so rich and characteristic.

If you know what I mean, you wouldn’t suggest a 355, which does sound great, but nothing like the Columbo sound. Nothing beats the rich complexity of the Columbo V-12.
