On my 84 308 my emergency brake doesnt grab... I can have it adjusted to grab, but then it wont release and just drags... I was told 2 different things, # 1. was I need new calibers, the # 2. was.. I need to have the calibers removed and cleaned up and oiled, so they can release... the car up to a year was a garage queen, sat for a few years other then a quick 15 minute drive here and there, but during that time never used the E. brake... so can it be it just needs a good cleaning and oiling to get it to release?? or is there a # 3. ?

I adjusted mine per the owners manual and it works fine..
Make sure your calipers are adjusted first then check for air in the lines. the calipers have there own adjustment.

I have been trying to figure out how to deal with the e brake problem on my 308. I had the brake calipers rebuilt by a outfit in Utah. They did not honor my request to return the same calipers. I probably have the 914 brake calipers, the emergency brake is worse than ever (if it's even possible). Does anybody know if there are differences between these two calipers(308 vs 914).

Also, in looking at the configuration, I was wondering if adding a small amount of epoxy to the double wheels at the point where the cable and wheel meet,(grooved for the cable) might cause the brake to pull more cable from the caliper. What I'm alluding to is making the wheel into a bit of a cam. Does anyone have an opinion on whether this might work.

Anecdotally, when i picked up my 2002 Modena the first words out of the dealer's mouth "and on this car, the emergency brake actually works".

I don't think epoxy would have any effect. If the turnbuckle isn't tight enough try adjusting that.

As I understand it the 914-6 and 308 calipers are the same except the 308 has a spacer between the caliper halves to deal with a thicker (vented) rotor.

A properly adjusted 308 parking brake should hold a 308 tight in place unless the ground has any tilt to it or it is windy.

It's really not and Emergency brake, it's a parking brake in my opinion. If everything is adjusted properly, mine will hold the car from rolling on a slight incline. Never leave a 308 in neutral!
I don't think the E- brake could stop you from any speed.
When the Engineer at Ferrari finished his task of designing the parking brake, his boss assigned him the Air Conditioner.
