I’ll never understand the whole, “Pista can’t beat a 720S so I don’t like it” crowd. For one, I’d say they’re about as even as cars can be. Even in a straight line which Mclaren prioritizes, both cars need to be well into lose your license territory for 720S to eek out an advantage. Secondly, looks are entirely subjective. Thirdly, imho Ferrari’s feel more special than McLarens and most on here share that opinion I’d reckon. Finally, if usable straight line performance is so important, buy a 992 TTS. It will monster both on normal roads at sub 80 mph.

  2. Between the F8, 488 and Pista, there are no bad, better or worse cars.

There are only cars that are better for you.

Just buy the one that speaks to you the most. Everything else is just static noise.

Sounds very good. If there’s no CEL that’s a winner. The rims are a crime.

I tracked both Pista and GT2RS this week for the first time, each at tracks I had never driven before. I also have an F8 and Speciale in the garage. There is not an average car among them, they are all brillliant.

But, there are differences. The 2RS is not nearly so friendly on track as the Pista, which is absolutely awesome on track. The 2RS could ultimately be slightly quicker (maybe) but average joe gets on terms with the Pista quicker and starts to have fun quicker. Our Pista felt strong, solid, like it would keep going. The 2RS felt like that but even more so, unburstable. The 2RS also has an old-school 911 appeal; rear engine balance (or lack of) and massive traction on exit.

I haven’t tracked the F8 but I can’t see how it would be better than the Pista, in the same way the 458 is not better than the Speciale (and I’ve tracked both of them plenty). But the F8 is a really interesting car. It won’t have a Pista version supposedly, it is as fast as the Pista on the road - at least half of the Pista’s brief - and looks great. The Pista probably does look more special but maybe the F8 a little prettier, looks are so subjective anyway. The interior is unique to it, it feels great to be in and drive and it is probably a better road car than the Pista. But we’re talking shades either way - better on the road but Pista is pretty great too, Pista is great on track but I would bet the F8 is pretty great too. If I could only have one out of the three? Pista. But I just know I would miss the 911, and if I had to have the F8 instead? That would rank just about the lowest on my list of things to complain about in my life (which is a very very short list anyway). Our Pista is a spider and our F8 is a coupe. Could they both sit alongside each other in the garage comfortably? Yes, but maybe not if they were the same body style. Then, the F8 and Pista are probably too close.

The F8 must be fitted with the Cup 2 tyres and I would be willing to bet that the F8 coupe would be at least or even more capable on the track than the Pista spider. The Pista coupe might in all likelihood edge out the F8 coupe but both would provide stellar and thrilling driving excitement.

The comparison between the 458 and the Speciale is not fully analogous to the F8 and the Pista.

The Speciale has more power and is lighter. While the Pista is modestly lighter than the Pista, they share the identical power trains and are otherwise virtually identical cars except for ECU mapping and suspension tuning.

Pista has two advantages on track, the gearing and aero. The gearing should provide better acceleration on the street. I’ve only seen one test of an F8 by Quattroruote and the F8 and Pista were essentially identical in a straight line.

Not sure. Speed wise, even without cup 2s it is close enough that a slightly stronger driver would overcome the difference. Cup 2s would help lower the lap time but I think it is more than just the tyres. But all these differences are less than even a small driver difference. So maybe you could say it’s not material. But the feel of the Pista is nicer for the track - if it wasn’t, Ferrari would have dropped a big one. They haven’t. The spider, which can feel a little less rigid than the coupe on the road with the top down, loses all sense of that on track - I drove top down on the track, a new experience for me and actually really fun (though wouldn’t make a habit of it). There were Pista coupes on track too and there is indiscernible difference between spider and coupe in performance terms. Whichever car has the faster driver is the faster car.

That’s very mixed, and driving them both, it certainly feels that way. Impossible to tell which is quicker without driving one directly against the other. They’re both so close it doesn’t matter, like the F8 and Pista. What matters is how they feel. And they all feel different, the 2RS and the Ferraris very different.

To Coincid, I’m not planning to track the F8 at the moment. Not because I wouldn’t, I definitely would. Mostly because I’ll keep plugging away at the 2RS. I plan to use the F8 on two UK weekends away coming up, one to Wales and the other to Scotland. Amazing driving there and I think the F8 is the right choice for that. I tracked a 488 a number of times and it was great, fast, very powerful, nicely balanced, a little understeer if you got the entry wrong but easily solved by driving properly. Can’t see the F8 do anything other than improve on that.

There’s only been one test of an F8. Unless they’re run on same day the results might as well be identical.

It's funny how guys who have never driven the cars in question all go on about the speed and base which is the better car on that alone. There is a lot more to a car than just speed and a set of tyres. We've been over this adnauseum but some will never get it. Only those who have driven the cars in question will get it. Those who haven't, can argue their corner until the cows come home but it doesn't mean anything. It's like one guy here saying the 720 is a better car than a Pista just because its a bit faster or coincid saying putting a set of cup 2's on his F8 will likely make it as good and equally compelling to drive. Sorry if only it were that easy - but its not going to happen, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

As Lukeylikey said: if Ferrari made the difference between Pista and F8 in only just a set of tyres they have failed miserably. Totally agree - and after driving both extensively on circuit I can assure you it's way more than just a set of tyres. Same case with GT2 - where there is much more to the car and the way it feels to drive than just the tyres on it - not discounting that the tyres are but one sum of the many parts which make the car.

It's like you incessantly defending Ferrari all the time against the almighty Gt2 - or anything else for that matter that poses a threat to the beloved Ferrari namesake - when both these are totally different experiences yet equally compelling in their own right as driving machines. And they were made to be proper drivers cars and this is the point here. So for those to assume their is no difference between a road going regular version with the same hp motor other than a set of tyres have no clue what they are talking about and, until such time they become qualified by driving the cars in question may as well spare themselves the embarrassment of making these unqualified assumptions.

Also funny is that some use their wallet as their compass and live with the hope that cheaper is better, casting aside all realities and actual differences in a bid to self justify and shut down, oppose and/or ridicule others opinions which don't meet theirs in that process. I've never said F8 is a bad car. I've only offered my opinion based upon my personal findings and have on occasion had to defend my opinion, usually because of unqualified challenges and incorrect assertions. Ive found F8 a pleasant drive and an improvement over outgoing GTB but i've no place for it and if I did I would have no hesitation in buying one and own one as I think it's a great car for what it is.
But i'm not going to kid myself I can save money by buying one over a Pista and wind up with the same or better driving experience by putting some stripes on it and a set of Cup 2's, and if I did I would do so.

Given what I look for and expect from these types of exotic cars as "driving experiences" I made my choices and am satisfied with them. I suggest a few of the F8 dudes here try and do the same thing and not get bent out shape over someone else who happens to have a different opinion than theirs and, more importantly, an opinion which was formed after actually driving the very cars in question.

    Yawn...

    This is an F8 thread.

I’m not a real Ferrari guy. Don’t track and most likely never will. Waited for years before I could afford a 911 convertible which was actually a compromise with my wife because I wanted a bike again after the kids left the house.

California 30 was first entry. Several models later I have an 812 and F8 as stablemates. I passed on the Pista because I have no interest in a track oriented car. I drive mine on the street and love the feel, look and sound. It makes me happy to drive them because they are fun. I will never get max potential out of them. Heck, any of you guys could probably beat me around the track if you were driving a Pinto.

Don’t have a Pista because I am too cheap to get a real Ferrari - a Pista? Hahahaha!! How arrogant can you get? Don’t mean to be ugly, but I can buy whatever I want. Don’t want a Pista. The F8 fits what I want and is beautiful to me. But then I think my 812 is beautiful as well to the horror of some on this site.

So, I am enjoying my very unique Blu Nart F8 with electric seats and a lifter!!! Hahaha! Such a shame.

It 's even funnier that you don't get the fact that this particular discussion was about track speed, not your inflated ego and the sense that you know best (as if you were Lewis Hamilton). I believe we have already established the fact that there is no such thing as a "best car". We all like what we like. The discussion was merely about a stock Pista vs a stock GT2 RS and the numbers seem to indicate that these cars are very close indeed, but that the Ferrari is marginally quicker, both in a straight line, as well as around a track. Whether you like it or not, these are the recorded facts, accrued by reputable publications around the world.

PS: Your F8 vs Pista delirium has nothing to do with me. Perhaps Coincid was right about the ignore function, after all...

Funny thing, i have the feeling that some (no personal attack here ;) ) use their wallet as a compass the other way round ... look guys, i paid a lot more for my Pista than what is asked for an F8, which proves that i have more money (and probably deserve more respect for that) and the best (whatever it means) car :D
(Full disclosure: i have a 488 GTB, i almost bought a Pista, then an F8, but eventually decided in both cases it was not worth the cost for me - although the F8 was closer)

I was only mentioning this as a point of amusement because I've read it from certain members here so I'm not making it up or imagining it. One has even quoted themself as a bit of a tight ass - need I mention names?:D Anyway I don't want to play on it but it does seem to come from the same select few who have never driven a Pista yet incessantly toss on that its not worth the extra money.

And, for the sake of Real zues, Ferrari's official mouth piece and all time Ferrari aficionado for all things Ferrari, exotic or performance related, the thread is actually about F8.

Pista came into it as have other cars as consequence of certain F8 owners making certain flawed comment and conclusions even though they haven't driven Pista, yet fantasize its the same car as F8 just for more money. The thing is GTB, F8 and Pista are all 488's so could in many ways all be called the same car but the reality is they all drive differently and were made that way by Ferrari. A GTB and F8 is not the same just for less money and theres more to a set of stripes and a set of cup2r's. If that was the case the best buy would be the GTB, plonk a pista stripe on it and a set of cup 2's and voila Pista!

PS any luck with that Photo of your claimed Ferrari yet Zeus? We are all still waiting. I will say at least noone1 was always straight up and at least put up pics of what he did own. OTOH your extreme evasiveness and reluctance to oblige even the most reasonable request always results in you take off every time the spot light is put on you.

The 812 and F8 are a brilliant garage pair, definitely for the road and even if you did occasionally track. I was on track yesterday with the Pista and there were a number of 812s going round at a great lick. I stayed behind a pretty well driven one for a while and what a sound! I might have even had a better seat than he did for that. They lean a bit more than the Pista in corners but they’re good on the straight. Pista and F8 would be able to take them on the straight, mainly because you can get a faster exit I guess, but it’s close. By the way, it is a good idea to track occasionally with some tuition - it allows you to understand the cars better. The key takeaway from instruction is how to drive faster but also massively increase the safety with which you can drive over before. I fully recommend it, even for drivers who have no real interest in being a ‘hot shoe’.

You just need a 911 now and you have every brilliant driving experience (6, 8, 12, front, mid, rear) at your fingertips....;)

Oh, and as for the 812 not being good to look at? Just no. People also moan about the SF90 and there was a static one on display yesterday. I’m sorry it looks fabulous in a way that doesn’t come across in iPhone photos which are 28mm wide angled, distorting the lines, and there was a clear consensus about it looking great from people I could hear around it. It was lined up directly by an 812 GTS, an F8 Spider and an F8 Tributo. All post-Pininfarina cars and all looked really, really fantastic. There is no other manufacturer I can think of that is producing a range of nicer looking cars today.

Perfect post, I find it hard to disagree with anything! Side by side, I think it is really hard to conclude the F8 isn’t better looking and possibly a bit more modern. The Pista looks as it should though, purposeful and more than a passing nod to what’s important for the track. Given this is the third car from the platform, the designers did well on the F8. The three slats on the rear look amazing (though are a bit impractical - they really distort rearward view and you start to get drips coming through onto the engine when it rains. Curiously distracting!)

I'd agree they are all great cars and I enjoyed the privilege to drive the F8 on circuit. And just because it didn't light the emotional fire like the Pista and Gt2 i could tell it was a certainly great car and well worth owning. But for me it was finding a place for it. I also thought it looked very smart and impressive overall....which I have stated on previous occasions..

PS. So the GT2? Was my advice bad or good? I know you were always curious from reading my glowing reviews. The only other piece of advice i can give you on it is to get it realigned - makes quite a difference to the behavior. Agree the Pista is easier to get a handle on but give the Gt2 time. It rewards big time.
