I know a lot of you have posted on the mechanism of heat dissipation In the front compartment and the engine rear compartment. do the heat shields from DEI work? Would wrapping the radiator pipes and headers work to redirect the heat? Yes, I appreciate the physics of heat generation and transfer. The car doors windows and roof of the targa are all sources that cannot be controlled. I figured you all had tried these things in the past thoughts? Worth it or just crank up the A/C?
I’d be interested in hearing from anyone who has done this too. I’m in the process of an engine out to reseal everything and replace all the old lines and hoses and was thinking about wrapping the cooling lines with heat tape and having the headers ceramic coated. My mechanic has done this on other cars and claims it makes a big difference both in the cabin and keeping the engine cool. However, I’d love to hear from someone who has already done this. I have used DEI and Zircotec products in my GT4 but dont have the engine in yet. I used Zircotec as a heat shield backing the fiberglass rear bumper and valance on my 911 to reduce heat transfer from the muffler and was very impressed. Downside in the engine bay is the bling factor but it should also be much easier to keep clean than the mostly flat finishes and rough textures from the factory. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Just my opinion but I'd say that in regards to cabin temp it's probably 90 percent solar so for all the effort it would take to do what you're contemplating you wouldn't see phenomenal results. I'm just saying this because on a warm overcast day it seems the A/C does pretty good. Sun comes out and not so good.
+1. It's solar heating due to the slope of windshield, poor insulation of top, and sloping side windows that allow overhead sun to shine on your outer shoulder. Low volume of blower air is also a problem.
I have heard concerns that it can cause exhaust headers to rust. I think most 308 headers are stainless steel, so not sure if it would be an issue.
Thanks all. I just had the tint shop install XPEL Prime XR to all the windows and the inside of the windshield - it’s about a 10-20% tint - so very slight that keeps the original clear appearance. WooooH what a difference. There is less glare from the windshield and the driving in direct sun is so much better. I had the AC on “1” Instead of 3. DEI Definitely worth it. I inquired at a few shops who wouldn’t do the windshield. Auto Armour in SD Trimmed up the old dissipated glue on the windshield edges giving it a new-look. Really impressed.
I ran into that years ago when I was considering tinting - no shops would apply any tint to the windshield. Different now?
I added these home-made deflectors and, believe it or not, they make a HUGE difference in cabin temps when the top is off and the car is moving. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/radiator-heat-dissipation.573126/#post-145917203 Craig
