Need help. My idiot brother in law was trying to lend a helping hand in extracting oil from my 95 355. In the process, the rubber end of the extractor hose fell off into the oil sump. What do I do? Freaking out. Need some help please. Pic attached of rubber nozzle. Thank you so much in advance.

I presume there is a drain plug on the bottom of the tank? I’d drain it, and hope the plug makes its way to the drain hole and then fish it out.

Dont run the car until you have it.

if you're talking about the tank where you fill the oil if you look inside there's a little shelf if you're lucky it's right there you can grab it with a little three prong grabber otherwise if it fell in the tank, at the bottom there's a pretty sharp bend down there there's very little chance it went down around that bend he's correct drain the oil unscrew that fitting and fish it out, worst case use the three Palm grabber and fish it out that line if by some odd chance it happened to get into the line between the tank and the engine. I believe there's also a screen where the oil line goes into the engine so there's almost no chance I got into the engine you'll be able to fish it out. It's just going to be messy is all.

Looks like the wrong end of the vacuum hose was put into the tank?

As Eric says, there is a screen (filter) in the tank, so the rubber end is not going anywhere in a hurry.

    7 is the filter.
13 is the normal oil tank drain plug.

Do you feel like removing the tank and turn it upside down while the BIL shakes it ....

It looks like the drain plug is directly below the filter, so the rubber bung may not come out the drain hole even if it is big enough. The claw option seems the better bet. You may have to drain the tank to see where the bung is located. If you still can't see it, you may need to use various lengths/shapes of wire reposition the bung. Do you have an optic fibre camera or can borrow one?

Undo the four oil lines at the oil tank. Remove two m8 screws attaching the tank to the frame (both toward the top of the tank, one in the wheel well). Disconnect the wires and ground at the bottom of the tank. Wiggle and lift it out.

Make the brother in law turn it upside down and shake it until it falls out. There may be a few other ports (like the thermostat) where you can undo / remove and get better access.

A cheap boroscope camera may aid in seeing where the piece is.

I just had a look at my F355 tank and didn't realise that it would be next to impossible to get it from the top. There are a series of baffles inside the tank.

There seems to a similar baffle with a hole in it below this one.

The rubber bung probably just fits inside that first hole. I don't know how you'd get a claw on it to drag it out.

I'm ashamed to admit it, I dropped something into the tank. I used a USB camera on a semi-stiff cable on my laptop to look into the tank. The cable would bend enough and retain its shape so I could peer around the tank. I could see it in the lower sections. Generally, it takes a while to get use to the frame of reference. I have a healthy respect for doctors that work with laparoscopic procedures now. :) Then over the course of a couple of days at hour or so at a time (you need to step back so you dont get too frustrated) I was able to get it into a corner & grab it with a three-pronged tool like Eric has linked to above. I was seriously considering just taking the tank out, but that looked like a task in of itself. There were a few times where I had it with the grabber & it dropped back in while trying to slip it up the baffles.

As I recall, I did wait until as much as possible drained out of the tank & did remove the plug to let drain what little was left in the basin.

Get a wet/dry shop vac. Duct tape a smaller 3/4" or 1" vacuum hose to the vac hose. Go tank fishing with vacuum.
I wouldnt care much about the shop vac and oil. You can always wash the wet filter a few times.

Good news. We all were hoping you would be able to get it out without having to go to the trouble of removing the tank. I know this episode will have me thinking when I open that oil cap to have nothing close by to possible end up in it.
