My opinion about Schumacher is the same I have about Senna, and I make no bones about it. Very skilled drivers but both with a dark side, and ready to do the unspeakable to win. "Great" drivers don't act like that.

Ok nobody is in dispensable that isn't in question, but lets assume you are correct and as far as Mercedes is concerned Hamilton is just a marketing commodity, that's if I 'am understanding you correctly?, as in your not fooled, and what you are actually saying is that Mercedes spend over 40 million a year just for his image/style and whatever that maybe that he portrays, one that is regularly mocked on here I hasten to add. However I digress, my point being is, you reckon it is not mainly for his ability to drive exceptionally well?, as you figure anyone sat in that Merc could gain the win counts and success he has had.? in short basically Merc only want to reach out to Hamilton's particular sector of a population, to sell them cars. Personally I don't buy that to be honest, the guy is a genius behind the wheel and Merc know that, so I figure it's his skill firstly then possibly his image, maybe they both go hand in hand if that is the case? I don't know. So is it still a case of win on Sunday sell on Monday?, either way in my book that requires a great driver car and a very efficient team to do that on a regular basis. So IMO the fact that he is just so good, is the reason has he has become a marketing and corporate attraction, whether it's liked or not.

I have already explained that I consider the notion of "goat" stupid. I will never say that Damon Hill was the best driver, but he gets more respect from me than Schumacher. Damon Hill is a gentleman, but his nemesis Schumacher was a thug. Remember, Michael Schumacher is the only driver ever disqualified from the World Championship by the FIA. That's says it all ...

I don't think Schumacher was a bad loser or poor sportsman. Quite the opposite in fact....if he was those things he'd have called it quits halfway through 2010!
You will have noticed that since the begining of this conversation, post #669, I don't talk about Hamilton, but you keep bringing him in. I only mentioned Senna and Schumacher. You are entitled to your opinion, and so am I. This exchange is leading us nowhere and I shall leave it at that.

94 even Damon said he (damon) was over-eager. A racing drivers' instinct is to get back on the track as soon as possible..I don't think Schumacher intended to crash into damon, he hit the wall square on so could be quite reasonably expected that damage was minimal. Damon himself was over-eager, but that's also a racing drivers' instinct. I don't think either are fully to blame. Jerez...I always had the opinion it was intentional, and his brain logic was among the lines of ''I'm leading the title fight here in a much, much slower car'' (not that that fully excuses it!). But a recent Ross Brawn interview where Ross said that Schumacher was seething as he came into the garage (with the Ferrari team not happy with him!), thinking Villenueve was to blame. Only when Ross showed Michael the footage, Schumacher saw his own error. Make of that what you will. In the same interview Ross said that Monaco 2006 parking was stupid. Michael took racing to the ultimate, but when others did it to him, he would never complain. A true racer to the core.
This sums-up why I like "Button-the-sportsman" so much: its elegant, stylish and smart. Class all over it. No bragging, no exaggeration, no false modesty either. A sincere hommage to Lewis, without diminishing his own abilities. Now, if Lewis could always have that style... Rgds
Well, I would mitigate. Spa 2000, when he tried to push Hakkinen out of the track at 300 Km/h +, was as close to a murder attempt as I can remember. Mika said afterwards, about the famous conversation he had with Schumacher (of which, there are many pictures): "it's always the same with Michael; I have raced against him for a long time, and he always says he would not do it again, but he will". To me, this was the defining moment; before that, about Adelaïde 1994 and Jerez 1997, I was excusing his behavior; after Spa 2000, no more. Rgds
Well, I think the seven day ban against Adrian is very harsh indeed...I saw that thread, even answered it, and it didn't occur to me that it could be qualifying as P&R. Admittedly, I'm French, so my notion of what is P&R might differ. Rgds

This is about the 15th user banned for posting P&R this month. Another user who initiated a P&R thread got 30 days. 7 days for initiating a P&R thread is already lenient and was issued based on Adrian's low post count, giving him the benefit of the doubt that he may not have seen the current month's ban-fest for user's who insist on discussing LH's political beliefs not related to F1. We don't like banning users, but we are absolutely serious that LH's politically motivated actions are NOT A TOPIC FOR DISCUSSION.

I have to say that I did not even looked into the article he posted, because I don't care much about the political opinions or beliefs of the drivers; I thought that article was a classification based on "influential" people, and did not see any political matters into this; and, as said above, I didn't even read the article: I'm more interested in what happens on the track, as for the rest, well: everyone has an opinion about everything nowadays...even racing drivers, can you believe that? But I am not interested in their opinions about anything else than racing. In fact, and this would be political, as into these 100 people was also the mayor of Paris (about whom I shall remained silent, or I will be banned for a hundred years...), I should have guessed (but I learned that only later, in the news). But honestly, I didn't think his post could be classified as P & R. Rgds
