    In the distant past, if a driver used too much of the track (like his outside tire leaving the pavement), he died. And this pretty much kept a lid on the problem.

    It is all this safety at any cost crap that has lead to::
    a) paved runoff areas,
    b) gravel traps,
    c) astro turf edging,
    d) driving through escape bollards,
    e) sausage curbs
    ....

    I, personally, would like to call an off track/delete-time/steward-incident if the outside tire leaves the curb (not the inside tire).

    So, maybe one way to "do this" would be to have everything beyond the curb be astro-turf that is constantly wet.
    As in:: Keep the danged car ON the road.

    Fully agree. Ricci was my choice for Ferrari seat. I feel the team missed a nice opportunity

    Riccardo was not fighting for a race win, F1 record or championship, so it's no surprise he was'nt upset. If he was in Hamiltons situation, you would have heard a different response

    Tonight I was watching a video of the British GT3 championship at Donington Park, UK, a circuit that once hosted a F1 GP.
    Some corners have small strips of green tarmac next to the kerb (we say Kerb in UK, not Curb) at the exit, and some corners just have grass after the kerb.
    Systematically all drivers would go off track limits if there was a paved run off, but not if there was only grass.
    The reason is obvious: you can take liberty with a surface that offers some grip, but you don't if you risk to spin by putting a wheel or two in the wet grass.
    It's a perfect example why run offs should be removed from circuits; they don't improve safety, but encourage drivers to go off track limits.

    Ricciardo made the wrong career move 2 years ago going to Renault.
    Thankfully he corrected that by signing for McLaren for next year.
    I understand that Ricciardo approached Ferrari in the past, but they were not interested.
    In the present circumstances, a seat at McLaren seems better than one at Ferrari.
    Sainz may well find that out!

    If you listen to the actual communication, it's as follows:

    ''There's too much rubber here, can I do the start somewhere else?"
    "Yes Lewis that should be ok"
    Lewis continues to drive very far away from what is the designated start practice place, and also it was around a corner so that could be a crash waiting to happen. Mercedes also said, in the nicest possible way so not to incur the wrath of his Lewisness, that they didn't expect him to drive all the way there and understood why they got a penalty for doing the start where he did. Twice.

    As for no mention ''where the start area is''...how come EVERYONE started from the same place (a place that the FIA designates as starting place), including that man that has to occupy the 2nd mercedes seat...and why did Lewis ask if he could do the start elsewhere? If he wants to do the start elsewhere he knew there was a designated starting zone in the first place.

    Stroll was on the curb when he was hit on his rear wheel by Leclerc. Leclerc did not leave Stroll any room.

    And that was Stroll's fault. Charles appeared to hit the apex quite nicely. Stroll took himself out. He said Charles should have backed off. Same for the child of Stroll. Racing incident. Max and Vettel among others, like FA will not be as easy and potentially more difficult. He is in over his head if he is to complain about today as he has done, loudly in the press.

    2 words for Lance - Grow up.

    Racing incident for sure, but no way it was Stroll's fault. Leclerc was trying to pass Stroll and went in too deep and tagged Lance from behind. Stroll had nothing to do with it. Stroll gave Leclerc a ton of room.

    I think Ricci would have given the same answer regardless if he were going for the win, or if a back marker. He just has a different attitude and mindset.

    When the most interesting thing about a race is if Lewis will get a time penalty or not, its not worth commenting on.

    Emphasised by his only doing 7th fastest lap a second slower than Bottas - he didn't even consider going for the fastest lap point but just cruised around

    I bet if you ask DR he was fighting for a race win!!!!

    You seem to forget [all] the other agitated radio calls by LH, getting past MS record is no excuse for losing it. He is about to become the most successful GP driver of all time in possibly 4 races time, if he behaves himself, so one race isnt going to dent that

    not accurate. He was going for fastest lap at the end and the team backed him off. Remember that he needed to make the tires last until the end after making an earlier-than-planned pit stop.

    Hmm, maybe that's why he's a 6 (going on 7) time WC with 90 wins and approaching 100 poles?

    TBH you'd have thought that if the FIA (actually the race director) had a designated starting place (actually practice starts place), they could have afforded a paint brush to mark it out.

    It looked like a messy weekend for HAM but he didn't really make too many mistakes; a small error in running wide on the final corner of his first P2 lap together with a much bigger mistake by VET conspired to put him put him on the wrong tyres, and having seen the rules and heard the analysis it seems like the practice start directions were somewhat ambiguous. The T2 rules that resulted in RIC getting penalised and SAI hitting the wall were quite ridiculous and really if they can't come up with better corners that that, they should just give up.

    Overall there are too many penalties, too many safety cars and too many interventions by the stewards. When you hear that HAM has 10 penalty points on his SL and GRO has 0, it just beggars belief.
