Follow engine temp that's why I suggest auto until they are up. Up and down start and stop you are loading the engine. So the piston rings seat into the honing of the cylinder wall.

In the picture you can see the cross hatching. This is caused from the honing operation and helps the rings "seat" during the break in process. When the term "seat" is used, it means the ring is worn down slightly, allowing it to mate to the cylinder wall, and form a seal which holds compression in the cylinder/combustion chamber, as well as keeping oil out.

It is claimed that Ferrari beds the seat as they do go for a test drive but at the same time on the manual they ask you to follow a break in procedure.

IMO do it. And don't mother it.

You win for the Pista wheels...so much better than the stock f8 wheels.

That, I understand... It was the logic behind up and down and stop and go, that I was referring to... But it wouldn't be any different than routine driving.. In my opinion. With that said. I will follow instructions. It will be hard to not floor it. I mean, being honest here... Who has received their car and not pushed it a bit as soon as they got it? I doubt that there has been a single soul that has followed those instructions to the dot.

The liners are usually electrosil or nikasil coated so you wont see the cross hatch. Visually the liners have a smooth dusky matt finish and the surface is extremely wear resistant. The rings see extremely minimal bed in wear and remain that way over the life of the engine due to the coating/plating on the liners. The coating is @ 20 to 30 microns and even after some many hundreds of thousands of kms is still there in the same way as it was new. The rings at that stage can show a deeper wear land but even they can still have plenty to go. Its mainly parts like valve guides, seats, and certain markings on the big ends, mains, and thrusts that can evidence degrees of wear and usage behaviour over the long haul. Turbo seals and bearings etc, and certian levels of carbon build up in manifolds and ports which can also tell a story on the use.
These days the engines are virtually idiot proof. Itd be more likely to see a problem develop in a clutch pack or a turbo in the early stages where the engine hasnt been respected than say a bearing or ring/liner related problem.

Never knew the cylinders were coated . Im going to look up that out of interest. I know the pistons are like the engines ive built but they aren't made by Ferrari . Mahle makes them. They even made mine as they have excellent reputation.

What I read up was that even after the coating is applied the cylinder

At this time the cylinder has been coated

to an undersize of the piston and will require a

specialized honing process to size the bore to

    the correct tolerances.

Thanks, I ended up doing a pretty traditional build of Rosso Corsa and Cuoio. Crappy cell phone pics, but you get the idea..

I love the seatbelt color contrast. The floor mats are an acquired taste.. However, I don't dislike them... I really love the tricolore along the name
