F430 gas cap gasket

    Is the gasket replaceable on it's own so I don't need to buy an entire gas cap. Got a CEL light yesterday for the gas cap, I re-tightened the gas cap and rest the warning. But if the gasket is cheap as compared to a new gas cap, I might as well just change it proactively.

    I didn't see it in the parts diagram, but that doesn't mean someone here hasn't figured out the replacement.

    The presence of the snap ring certainly indicates it *SHOULD* be replaceable...not that that means much these days of course. ;)

    Seems like just ponying up for the full assembly (no pun intended--okay maybe a little bit) would probably be far quicker and easier than ordering a few dozen gaskets until finding one that works.

    But I'd wager a Monster Rehab Raspberry Tea that one probably could find a gasket that fit, given enough time.

    I think the snap ring is for replacing the tether. The red rubber gasket seems pushed on or maybe with some adhesive. Was hoping some has done this before. Seems a waste of $250 to $300 to throw the old cap out for a rubber seal.

    Call Ferrari I needed a dash part when I looked it up it only came in a kit by going they the parts book. But the dealer was able to just get me the cover without the kit. But it wasn’t cheap, but made me happy!

    Looks like a large size O-ring might do the trick. see if the gasket will pry out of the retaining groove and take some measurements, and see if you can match it closely with a thick O -ring. McMaster Carr has tons of this type stuff.

    If the cap was loose or improperly installed by gas attendant.. I would as you did .. remove and reinstall it properly .. not sure the gasket would have made a difference.. unless you see something wrong with it ..like cracks or if brittle etc

    I wouldnt mess with it unless you see some evidence of the rubber been the issue ...

    Well I am in NJ and we aren’t allowed to pump our own gas so it could be a gas station attendant thing. The gasket visually looks ok.

    Here is the weird part. I took the cap off and heard a lot of hissing from pressure when I did. I then put it back on making sure it clicked. 1st time I started the car about 4 hours later it seemed to be running on 4 cylinders and the CEL came on. Turned the car off and restarted it a minute later and everything was fine. No CEL. The residual code in the system I read with my Autel was that one bank had an evaporative failure (the code usually means gas cap). Reset the code and I guess we will see. Maybe it was the attendant or maybe I need a whole gas cap or just a seal. I think there is a tool for testing the cap, I remember something back in the day when NJ actually had a real emissions test.

    I am in NJ as well and I try to always pump my gas ..usually the attendant invites it since they don't want to screw up and have gas overflow onto car

    I wouldn't jump to conclusions that it is the gas cap ..

    Just curious .. do you wait for OK when you turn key to on position before starting car ?

    I try to wait for OK when I start the car, but you know I really don't know if I always do that.... At least on a Porsche they entertain you with the moving oil measurement indicator (their version of the spinning hour glass).

    I know that sometimes not waiting for ok doesn't allow time for one of the two to power up correctly and you get a engine running on 4 cylinders .. you probably read that elsewhere but wanted to make sure
