The fact is that Racing Point isn't used to have its 2 cars leading a GP !

So they are now in the learning curve about setting their own strategy.

The same for Stroll; it must have been the first time he was leading a GP, I guess.

Case could be made that he has some potential and that if he continues to improve he deserves a spot. I mean he has improved a lot. He used to suck real bad. He also actually seem to be a rather nice young guy, not read/heard too much negative about him.

Remember that Perez is one of the best, if not the best, at tire management. Stroll's inexperience cost him, and even if he hadn't pitted he still would probably have lost places, to his teammate and the two Ferraris.

Yes. I don't think he's unworthy of an F1 seat anymore...this has been a good season for him. He's not anything special, but he's quite different from the guy that crashed into the barriers in monaco and then asked his team if there is something wrong with the car....

I will absolutely concede he’s improved this year. Remember the days of the ‘how many days since Stroll crashed’ website? Oh how we laughed. He has risen from being the worst driver on the grid to being in the bottom 20%. His peers, IMHO at this time, are Latifi, Grosjean and Giovinazzi.

Stroll is well above these 3. None of them ever got a podium, a pole or led a GP.
As for Russell, he is still judged on his F2 results: he has never score ONE POINT in 3 years of F1 !!!

Are you serious about Russell ?
Do you really believe Stroll is better than him ?

We are talking results here, plain and simple. Because in the end that is how all sport is measured. The hypothetical "in equal teams/cars who would get most points" is completely irrelevant for the drivers and only for the armchairs :)

Secretly I hope Latafi qualifies ahead of him one day, just to hear Crofty shut up about how AMAZEBALLS it is that Russell never got beat in a qualy duel. He never made Q3 either, or scored a point, but lOoK aT tHaT qAuLiFicAtIon FoRm!!!!!!

As it stands now, he's in the running to become the next Hulkenberg, not the next Hamilton

In the end, only results matter. The rest is just talking, simply subjective.

I'm just happy there is a Stroll in F1. Keeps it entertaining. What else can you ask for?

I will say that it is nice to see some of the posters that perennially bash Stroll to admit that he is doing ok and is showing a sign of improving. I think we can all agree he is still not on a Max or Charles level and likely never will be but the sport is filled with many fine drivers that may never be generationally good but, given the right circumstances, can challenge for wins and even championships. Hill, Villeneuve, and Bottas are three that come to mind. Each have their extraordinary days from time to time but more normally are not quite at the level of their multiple World Championship counterparts.

I think that those who continue to fight their corner arguing that Stroll is useless and the worst driver in the field are only making themselves look more petty and pathetic with the passage of time.

The opinion of Ricci and others of Stroll are his real reputation. His moves on Ricci in Austria then on Norris are his current CV in terms of being a racer. He is marginally better and would you hire him??

Perez has 'shown him the door' this year. There is really nothing impressive in total and we do get the occasional 'glimpse' as noted in a video some time ago.

He is not one many drivers fear is he. Unless he tries a pass lol :)

Stroll is improving his game as evidenced by scoring a pole position. Something Perez hasn't achieved in nearly three times as many GPs in his career.

I'm pretty sure given more time Stroll will get better at many things including tire management. Luckily for him and some of us, he will have that chance.

From the BWT RACING POINT F1 TEAM twitter page

UPDATE: During the team’s routine post-race car set down, we discovered damage to the underside of Lance Stroll's front wing that was a significant contributor to the graining issues he experienced during his 2nd and 3rd stints on the intermediate tyres at the TurkishGP.

Lance reported poor tyre performance, significant understeer and graining from lap 17 onwards in the race. Pitting for a fresh set of intermediates on lap 36 failed to resolve the problem, with the graining becoming even more severe.

One of the strakes on the underside of the front wing had come loose and lodged itself in such a way that the blockage caused a significant loss of front downforce. The resultant loss of front downforce contributed to increased levels of graining.

Data during the race confirmed there was a significant loss of front downforce - but with no visible damage to the top side of the front wing, combined with the low-grip conditions, it was difficult to confirm whether the data was correct.

It was only after the race, when the car returned to the garage, that the damage and blockage to the underside of the front wing was discovered.

Does Tracing Point commend Checo's performance or is most of the tweet about mechanical issues with Lance's car?

Funny guy. That said for those that believe that all that matters is results, then Gilles was pretty average as he 'only' won 6 races and got beaten to the Championship by his teammate

Shhshhh! Don't post facts on here. Then again most detractors will simply ignore your post. Just as they ignore the two DNFs without Lance's fault and his Covid 19 case but rather stress that he didn't score much recently.

    Ah life is good.

Did you even visit the Racing Point Twitter page? There are lots of posts commending Checo with photos. The all text post explaining the teams findings on Lance's car is one of many talking about the teams performance.

Tell me do you enjoy going cherry picking? :D

His performance in the rain was so atypical I wouldn’t be surprised there’s something else dodgy R.P. orchestrated for him, like illegally hot tyre warmers or some other illegal system to transfer heat from brakes to rims. Pat Symonds recently admitted they had something similar at Williams when they were very competitive in some races few years back. In fact when the track started to dry up and he changed tyres pace vanished.
