It's amazing what herd mentality can do to how I perceive the world.

I only found it because I was looking back to see that I had said about Lance and it was on the same page! At the time, I felt that it was too soon to judge if he could be good or not.

    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/145398019/

I think people bag on Lance because of the situation that he finds himself in through no fault of his own. He was there because of who his father is and the ability to buy a ride (or an entire team!). At the same time, Lance is now actually competing in the top 10 in F1. $ doesn't do that for you. It helps, but the stopwatch and results, ultimately over ride that. Second generation F1 drivers bear the burden of their fathers too, some better than others. Andretti, Rosberg, Villeneuve, Verstappen. Heck, some never even make it that far.

I think it’s absolutely fine to change opinions with time and new evidence. As most on here will know, I change views regularly! I’m open to being convinced that Lance is worth his seat, and after Saturday I did start to wonder if he really was. Then Sunday happened. To give him credit, at least he didn’t do a Bottas and spin 6 times in one race. That has to be some kind of record?!

Where is the picture of the damage LOL :)

This corresponds well and Bottas had damage also compromising the car's balance for his Mercedes. It was clear something was not right with Stroll car after the pit stop.

I made myself some disparaging comments about Lance when he started in F1.
He seemed out of place then, and not very promising.
The fact is that he improved tremendously over the years, so much that I became a fan of him.
Now he fully deserves his seat in my opinion.
I was wrong, and I am not the least embarrassed to admit it.

I can't speak for Tifosi12, but for myself, I never like to follow the herd, and I like outsiders.
I will tend to side with whoever I feel is unfairly criticised or unjustly attacked.
If that confuses people, so be it.
I also notice that some people work according to a mental picture they made out of very few information.

See, that's fine...but I just don't see the logic in someone supporting a driver for a long time, then when the driver gets fans, the person drops any and all support.

Same who defend Hamilton do the same for Stroll which is weird as they and their stories couldn’t be more different. Coincidently only thing they have in common is most Ferrari supporters don’t like them both..

Damage makes sense ..he suddenly lost 1 or 2 secs a lap from being easily around 9 secs ahead of Perez and the rest.So honestly have to say Stroll would have won otherwise.

Will he get another chance like that ? probably not but he does seems to drive quite well in the wet.Not much chance of that in the sand pit.

Thank God we are allowed to change our opinions based on new insights! Imagine people cling on to their convictions without hearing what other people have to say, it would make a public forum like this a desert with a lot of shouting people :)

Haven't we gone over this at least a dozen times? <sigh>

I drastically changed my opinion about MS when he let down Ferrari in their worst moment: When they needed him and he was available, then test drove the Ferrari, realized what a POS it was and then claimed headaches from his motor bike accident earlier in the year. His doctors went on to say that if he'd ever drive a F1 again, he'd risk becoming a permanent paraplegic, so he should never climb into a cockpit again. We all know what happened: Ferrari put BADoer in that seat and of course it led nowhere and MS experienced a miracle healing and joined Mercedes and test drove their car in the same year. Complete and utter betrayal of the Scuderia by a man who actually publicly stated that he'd never drive for another team but Ferrari.

As for Vettel: Yup, I was a big fan on his, especially in his RedBull years when he actually knew how to be incredibly fast. Then my support withered away as did his driving skills. Not hating the guy at all but I think his due-date is way passed (as was MS' when he joined Merc) and he should retire.

You realize I also like Hamilton, LeClerc and Max. Drivers who already have a big following here as elsewhere. If your theory were true, I'd be only supporting Giovanazzi and Latifi.

Speaking of people changing their minds:

Jacques Villeneuve now supports Lance. For the longest time he was making nothing but negative comments about his countryman but the pole position on Saturday changed that. Jacques called that a showcase of talent and stated that Lance earned that pole on merit when everybody else struggled and made mistakes. Nice to see the Canadian #1 driver is now on the side of #3.

On a drying track, mixed with wet I dont think either Clone wins. LH pace was incredible.
He does not 'overtly' state support. He outlines situations where Stroll has done well. I dont sense anything other than him being objective.

Jacques Villeneuve has a rare compliment for his countryman Lance Stroll after the Turkish GP.
Although Stroll finished ninth on Sunday, he actually commandingly led the race after powering to his first-ever pole position on super-slippery Saturday.

1997 world champion and fellow French Canadian Villeneuve is a regular critic of Stroll's, insisting he is in F1 only because of his father's money.

But he said of the 22-year-old's pole: "It was an exceptional lap.

"Unlike several other drivers, he did not make any mistakes and took advantage in particular of Max Verstappen's hesitancy on his last attempt.

"Really, this time, I have nothing to criticise him about," Villeneuve insisted.

"It wasn't luck - he drove well. Several drivers used the same strategy, opting for intermediate tyres at the end of the session. He just did a better job."

In fact, 49-year-old Villeneuve said Stroll often takes advantage of situations such as the difficult track conditions seen last weekend in Turkey.

"He was brilliant in qualifying at Monza in 2017, and also Baku when he was on the podium. He obviously feels good when the conditions are difficult," he said.

You're being way too kind here. Or sarcastic.

I'm a fan, I'm anything but objective. Of course I'm biased. The moment I say I'm objective, you know I've lost the plot.

I had the pleasure once to attend a speech by Eddie Undera-Cheever in Indy where he spoke about F1. He compared the various liveries by the teams, the drivers, the helmets to the colors at a Medieval Jousting event. The whole race weekend is nothing but an entertaining circus and the plebs (that's us) get to choose to support the red knight or the blue knight. I found that comparison utterly fitting. It's about passion, emotions, love, hate, betrayal, fandom etc. It's certainly not science. At least not for me. Which is why I rarely chime in on technical F1 threads because I know little about it.
