To avoid any confusion, in this case "LSD" is referring to Lake Shore Drive in Chicago, not lysergic acid diethylamide...
People in the Chicago area would get the reference... others may not. ;)

For the curious, there are several places in Chicago that rent exotic cars. Most large cities do.

Thank you for the clarification. I didn’t think the turns mattered much if it was really LSD he was on.

Well that's the thing. There are only about 5 real turns, all downtown, so how can you miss those?

It was 28°F at midnight Friday night/Saturday morning. They may have just been going too fast on cold tires on cold pavement... or possibly they hit black ice.

Whichever that agency was, it served them right for renting a high performance car to a couple of kids with Zero experience or skill.
Most agencies limit these rentals to folks over 30 only(unless they happen to be Chinese and post a deposit equal to value of the rented car).

I'm sure someone will be offended by associating the word "black" with a deadly icy roadway condition.

It was northbound at the curve, between the ledge and Oak St. Beach. Basically parallel to East Lake Shore Drive. Buddy of mine said the wall saved them from swimming.

They came into the curve on the left side of the picture closest to the lake, and lost it in the left hand turn near the ledge.

That is a pretty hard turn that jumps right at you when heading Northbound.

Lots of taxis get busted up going in both directions around there.

I would also point to the tire issue, summer compound right around the freezing temperature equals lousy grip

I hope the 2 folks involved will be ok.

My winter tires went on the LC 500 last week and they are going on the NSX this week

That's a spider too, the roof structure did its job well protecting occupants in the rollover.

Didn't they know the "track"? This is the curve with the hardest angle. Everybody knows this one. Speed limit is way down on that turn for a reason. And no run off area if you miss it.

Our California has had winter tires for about a month; not worth risking our safety to keep the summer tires on, even though it's headed to camp (i.e. storage) for the next three months. We won't switch back to summer tires until at least mid May in the Chicago area!

Just think, until the '80's, Lake Shore Drive was known for the "S" Curve, the bane of many drivers. Reconstruction helped straighten it out a bit, but there was only so much they could do. Anyone looking for more information can google "Lake Shore Drive" on Wikipedia.

I was on Lake Shore Drove two weeks ago in my vette. It was in the low 50s and I still had the Goodyear F1s on it and it was like driving on ice. I love the F1s in the summer. Closest thing to pure track tires I’ve ever experienced on a street car. Below 60, summer tires are dangerous at speed. The all season tires are being put on today.

I equate it with turn five at Road America, without the runoff. You have a long stretch from Monroe into a hard left in a tight corner. What could possibly go wrong if you break the speed limit when it’s 28 degrees? Insert sarcasm here

Actually breaking the speed limit in that turn is easy since they set it so low. You can do it safely in a sedan. The question is more by how much do you beat it?

I used to work for the Park District and parts of the remnants of the S curve are in the lake. They were used to create break walls in Rogers Park and a pseudo reef off of 47th street.

Lake Shore Drive has a fascinating history and is a must see experience if you come to Chicago. The view of Lake Michigan to the east and the iconic high-rises to the west can't be beat!

I was talking about a hypothetical based on curve radius and speed limit. Of course...
