"beating" Hill (possibly the most underrated WDC but that's a different discussion) is a bit of an overstatement. The 1992 Brabham must have been an awful car and in 1993 and 1994 I noted only two times, both at the German GP and once due to a tyre deflating and the other due to a collision. Not counting the infamous Schumacher incident of '94 and any other DNF's.

Did watch a summary of the 1993 season. At times it was almost like the commentators expected Fittipaldi to come flying off the track. Had almost forgot how few races were actually won by the WDC in those years, how often the cars broke down and how often they spun, stalled at the start (or in the pits) and such.

Sometimes sky puts geo-ip blocks on their vids but it's currently working for me.

He was not picked up by any major team and left F1 after barely 3 years. That to me says it all.

Neither Stroll and you think he's barely good.

Getting a spot at the right place depends on many things (money, good luck, bad luck of others...), so I think that "not being at a top team" is not a strong enough criteria. There are many good drivers that never got their chance.

Stroll has achieved a good deal more than Fittipaldi. Podiums, points and pole position.

Someone who comes from South America and in his first try wins the most important championship in Europe, apart from F1, says what to you?

Zanardi left F1 too to become champion in Indy, Montoya left Europe after winning F3000, etc.

Are you aware that to be able to stay in F1 you need to be at the right time, with the right people, with the right amount of $$$$$???? I can tell you at least 10 drivers who didn't make it to F1 but who would beat more than half of the current grid.

I'm aware of that and it is hard to believe that somebody with the Fittipaldi name wouldn't have the right connections and $ when it comes to F1.

As Nuvolari said, $ is a form of talent or prerequisite, something that Lance has. Among other things.

I have all of them. In fact I made my own reviews of the F1 years before the official versions came out. That's how I have a consecutive collection from 1950 to present.

For someone from a weak currency country to make it to F3, F2, or even F1, is many times more difficult when it comes to raise sponsorship. He mentioned in his interview he could stay in F1 in a weak team or simply move to Indy for a competitive team. He chose the second.

Also, I don't know if you know, but the Fittipaldi family has gone bankrupt in the 80's with their F1 Copersucar team endeavor. Imagine living through it and again coming into a situation where you need to invest huge sums for an incertain future.

So take a look at them and see how Christian did against his teammates when the car didn't break.

Stroll had way better cars than what Fittipaldi ever had. Still, I don't see any top teams interested in him.

Another guy with an Italian name who isn't Italian!

After Dario Franchitti (Scottish), Paolo DiResta (Scottish) and Daniele Ricciardo (Australian) we now get Pietro Fittipaldi (Brazilian).....

Does he have dual citizenship then? Every reference I've ever seen about him refers to him as an Australian.
