Hey guys, I ran into a weird problem tonight. I got some new rubber seals for the top of the brake master cylinder, where the reservoir lines come in. The old ones were leaking like a sieve, and got fresh brake fluid all over the bottom of the frunk. The trouble is, the new and old seals are quite different in size. I can overlook the height and thickness difference, since the diameters of the holes in the MC are smaller at the bottom, and seem to be compatible with both the old and new seals, according to my micrometer. However, the 90 degree fittings on the car seem to be about twice as wide as the holes on the new seals. No way they're fitting. I double-checked that I ordered the right part, and I did, and the new part matches the picture on the Ricambi America site. This leaves either an updated part or an incorrect substitution a PO might've done. Anyone seen this before and know where I can get the thinner 90 degree fittings? Or if I somehow ordered the wrong part? Or what else could be going on? The ones I got (three total) are PN 175189. Thanks for any insight!

The master cylinder may not be original and came with it's own 90 degree fitting and seal. I see Eurospares are offering an aftermarket master cylinder.

I can't tell from the photos if they are different.

The lower one is OEM (apparently). I don't know if the colour is a clue.

Thanks; this is a good explanation. I'd frankly expected the seals to be only sold as part of a new MC anyway, so maybe I wasn't far off. When I get a break in meetings at work today, I'll try to decide what I should do. Thanks again!

I ordered some 5/16" 90º HDPE fittings from Amazon. I'm a little worried about the seal covering the actual entry hole in the bottom of the MC's inlet port, but I guess I'll find out soon enough...

Well, I tried to install one of the new ones, and it was too wide at the top. I managed to stuff it in there anyway, but I'm virtually certain it blocks the channel for the fluid. So I just bought a replacement master cylinder from Ricambi America.

ooops... I just used MrJames' part number in a search and it led me to an item fitted to the clutch master cylinder. So what is James looking for?

Can you buy the rubber grommets for the brake master (separately)?

Based on the plastic elbow-connector James showed, he is talking about the clutch master but calls it "brake master cylinder". Brake MC's with remote fluid reservoirs would have such connectors though.

So, I'll feel quite embarrassed (and out $750) if I got this wrong. This is the brake master cylinder, right? I'm new to working on a Ferrari; my experience is mainly with Porsches (944 & 968). I really hope I didn't use the wrong name, or come to the wrong conclusion, and order the wrong part. But this is what was leaking.

Yes, that's the brake master. It has two large ports on top with right angle connections.

It looks like you simply got the wrong part number for the rubber grommets.

It looks like either you ordered the wrong part or you were sent the wrong part. According to Eurospares website, the seals 175189 are only for the Clutch MC on the 355. There are actually two different seals under this same part number - one for Clutch MC 123416 and another for Clutch MC 175211.

Otherwise, seal 175189 (not clear which of the two) is used for Brake MC on 308, 328 and some other models but not on 355. The 355's Brake MC seals are not listed as a separate part.

Since there appear to be two different 175189 Clutch MC seals, perhaps you got the one that does not fit the Brake MC and, perhaps, if you get the other 175189, it may fit.
