Had a quick question. I have a full 6 piece tan set of Testarossa luggage, but DON’T have the dust cover (bags) and I think I’m missing one key and one name tag. Huge price offset for these, or is the focus on the luggage itself?

I’m likely going to list it with BaT for the exposure, but wanted to ask (especially since very few people actually use the luggage).

thanks for any thoughts on this.

I’m actually looking for a full TR luggage set. The missing dust covers are a big deal, but the missing key and name tag not so much. I already have one piece of the set (long bag) and actually use it when traveling overnight.

    cool you use it.

I have not successfully found any source for the dust covers (at least the older ones. The yellow ones maybe).

If you're selling the luggage with the car, a complete set is what will create the largest improvement in value, dust covers less important in that situation.

If you're selling the luggage on their own, the dust covers are pretty desirable.

Also, I think the real value of the luggage stand alone is a lot less than what sellers would like it to think. I paid considerably less for my 1-owner, new in box/bags/etc luggage two years ago off of ebay. The set sat there with no one buying it and the seller kindly accepted my offer. I won't publicize the price here but if you're in the market and curious feel free to pm me.

These sets are so expensive. I wish somebody would make a 1000 dollar recreation.

Well, 6.000 USD for a complete six-pieces set seems rather in line with the market. If you really wants one...if fully outfitted with the original dustcovers, keys covers, labels, etc, it could bring about 15% more.
There is one fully complete for sale on E-Bay U.K these days, but that seller has really high prices (the 4 pieces set for 308 asks 10.000 GBP...)

That's exactly what I mean. No way you will ever get GBP 10.000 for a set of 308 luggage, even pristine, even complete with all the accessories, and even if it was black (very rare for the 308 set). But you can always ask for GBP 10.000...it's not against the law.

I’ll be honest, that went higher than I expected in 2 days but hey, roll the dice with no reserve is my style. We’ll see where it ends up.

as an aside, this time around with BaT was a sub par experience. 35+ days to go “live”. The auction writer...

And they left a huge set of photos out (just added this morning myself).

The plus side is, global eyes.

I've heard primarily, but not exclusively, negative things from sellers who sold or tried to sell on BaT. Seems that you get a good price, but go through a lot of hassle for the service.

Tim, my experience dates back a few years having sold a few cars with them.

I will never be a buyer on BaT, but selling is simply a matter of knowing you're going after top dollar.

I have heard of scenarios where after their acquisition and quest to gain more and more users, some deals have ended, but gone "unsold" after the curtain has fallen. From a business perspective, it's literally brilliant. 'Get your cut, get paid instantly' and leave the details and sale money to be hashed out by the two independent parties (buyer and seller). Write up a TOA/TOS that's iron tight, and just print money, every day.

The only hassle, is being a regular person (myself) selling on there. Waiting a month + to list something. Being assigned some jabroni who knows nothing about cars, but can write a legible sentence (whoop-de-doo). I have a friend of a friend who's a dealer in NY, who states, he doesn't even pay a listing fee anymore, and I have PERSONALLY bid against him on a dealer site on a car he eventually won, and it went live 8 days later on BaT...So, seems there are rules for the plebes, but not all is fair ;)
