If I were to put 550 wheels on my 456 would I need different bolts? also, does anyone have any extra stock 550 wheels laying around?

Eurospares have sets of new old stock standard 550 wheels for £895 for a set of 4.

Assuming you're in the States even with shipping and import duty you're unlikely to find a better deal over there.

456 should have the same bolts used on the 550/575

Good to know. I’d all but talked myself out of a wheel change but for 895£ and reuse stock bolts I can’t resist.

So I’ve read spacers on back 15mm “or more”. Does anyone have experience with this? Would 20 or 25mm be better? I’d rather use 20+ mm because then I can use bolt on adapters which are better than spacers with long bolts.

I prefer spacers with extended bolts as it has less weight than adapters (double the amount of hardware). If running Ti lug bolts with a spacer, it is ballpark same weight as OE steel lug bolts and no spacer.

I use 25 mm Hill Engineering Type 2 spacers on the rear of my 575M. Those have hardened inserts for the wheel bolts. Titanium bolts on the spacer and factory titanium bolts on the wheels. Has worked fine on three sets of wheels.

    Hi,

I have used 550 wheels on our 1995 456 GT for almost six years, no spacers, no problems. Currently I have the original 17” inch wheels on the car as our streets are in pretty bad shape, but if we will be able to have the Nordic FOC meeting in Denmark next spring I will drive through Sweden with the 550 wheels.

    Cheers!

Got my 550 wheels on the car but the wheel bolts I was supplied with the spacers are a smaller head than the stock bolts and don’t seem like great quality so I’d like to find some +15mm bolts for the rear on the car. I’ve found a few sources but at 25$ each it’s a bit pricey. Anyone have suggestion on a source for them?

Thread engagement length is critical. At the minimum, thread engagement length must be equal to or greater than the diameter of the fastener. In other words, if the stud is 1/2-inch in diameter, the nut must engage onto the stud by at least 1/2-inch.

It's a bit of a wait, but I can have some Ti bolts machined you (cost significantly more than steel/aluminum). Shoot me a message if you're interested.

In terms of factory-supplied original bolts, this is not correct.
    • The 456 uses a longer bolt, 55mm from the end of the bolt to the start of the conical head. The rear bolts on a 456 have a 33mm head and the fronts are 27mm.
    • The 550 uses a bolt which is 52mm from the end of the bolt to the start of the conical head. Both fronts and rears have a 27mm head.
