355 Is there a slave cylinder? Who sells them (or rebuild kits)?

    My brake fluid has exhibited some gelling, apparently because the car has barely been driven in ten years. To be on the super-safe side, I'm replacing, rebuilding, or cleaning out everything that brake fluid touches. I've ordered a new clutch master cylinder, but I can't find a slave cylinder. I saw stuff to rebuild one, which would be preferable to buying one, but it was on a site in the UK (I'm in the US), and it wasn't clear what all I needed, since the parts are not sold as a kit. Hill Engineering (also UK) sells kits, but the wording sounds like they're to rebuild release bearings, instead of slave cylinders. I'm kind of baffled that I can't see the part on any of the parts diagrams on the sites that sell parts - not even official Ferrari sites - and no one seems to sell them, either. It seems like it would go bad with similar frequency to other moving hydraulic parts.

    Does the car not have a slave cylinder? Does it have some alternate name? (I noticed the brake master cylinder is instead called a "pump.") I've got almost everything else to ensure there's no chunks or corroded pieces in my hydraulic systems, and while this is probably the least critical part, I want to finish the job. Thanks!

    (I've ordered both new master cylinders, tools and materials to make all new hard lines, four brake hoses, four caliper rebuild kits, and a new reservoir. Still haven't decided what to do about the ABS pump.)

    Sounds like you know as much about Ferrari ABS brakes as I do. I assume it’s a Bosch system, not Teves?

    If you’re bleeding the entire system then perhaps it’s a job best left for the experts with proper Ferrari calibration tools?

    It is indeed a Bosch system. I will take it in if I'm not able to bleed it successfully, but I'm not going to give up on doing that before I even try. The ABS pump is the big variable there. I suspect I can remove one or more solenoids and get enough access to view the inside and squirt it with brake parts cleaner, to ensure there's no gel
    in there. Then I plan to figure out a way to get all the air out of that, and the rest should go smoothly.

    But how about that clutch slave cylinder?​

    The car has "slave cylinders" for the brakes if that is what you want to call it. The proper name is "brake calipers" and there are no rebuild kits anymore. You just need to remove the pistons from each of the four brake calipers, measure the diameters of the pistons and buy the seal kit for them. Each kit has dust boot and seals for 2 pistons.

    Bosch systems do not need anything special to bleed it other than a Motive pressure bleeder. Be sure to bleed both inside and outside bleeders for each corner.

    The clutch slave cylinder is located inside the pumpkin housing on the main shaft. It is a dual purpose Release Bearing and Slave Cylinder. $600 or there about. It is notorious for going bad and leaving you stranded. Change to the better Hill Engineering one if you are going to do this. Nobody touches this without also replacing the seals, orings, and other incidental as part of the job.

    The secret is revealed! Thanks so much for explaining this. As for the calipers, I already bought kits for all four, from a different vendor. But I appreciate the link, anyway!
