The 512TR did have optional shields for certain markets as a special order on very late production cars. Most of the cars were J-spec: http://www.red-headed.com/512tr_speciale.html Though several others exist as well: https://www.dupontregistry.com/autos/listing/1993/ferrari/512--tr/2068324?utm_source=FSBO&utm_medium=Instagram&utm_campaign=VDP2068324
Some of the dealer groups and sales managers I deal with will not buy a Ferrari without shields. They don't mind the way they look without them... It's just that customers don't buy them without shields... That's obviously a bit over exaggerated... But the dealers I know will not stock cars without shields.
Im considering the Roma, and the shields.....my wife and i went to the dealer to do the simulated build and the first thing she said, "i dont like those shields on the car"! Hmmmmm, Im good either way.....so im going no shields happy wife....happy life! Lets go do it! Beautiful car......trying to optimize the right color/interior for the car....tough decisions!
I'm in the middle ground camp (which is a small group) Don't need/require them and also don't mind if they're already on the car. I think some cars look cleaner without and some more striking with. The carbon shields are very nice as well. Be happy we get to choose.
Image Unavailable, Please Login I’ve got one with and one without. They suit some cars better than others. A red Ferrari is already pretty flashy, so for me the shields work. I wouldn’t pass up a car because it did or didn’t have them, as long as they are factory. That said, I can see how they could be a must have option for some people since they are something pretty much unique to Ferrari.
Must have option #1 - leather headliner Must have option #2 - fender shields No other options are necessary, IMHO Joe
Not required for me. My wife isn’t a fan, and since she picked out the car and bought it then who am I to argue. I wouldn’t turn down a car that had them though. Quite a few more important options to me. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I really wanted the LED shift lights steering wheel, preferred the quilted leather etc but shields did not matter at all when I bought the 599.
If you've got shiny jewelry, don't shy away from using the Bedazzler and just go half-assed. Shield it up!!!! Hey, it's got shields, so gotta be the Real Deal. Don't want to be mistaken for a lesser car. The shields seal the deal!! No shields, so this one is obviously questionable. And so everyone knows it's yours, please dress the part
Oops - Forgot about the classic "THIS is what this car IS, baby!!!" effort: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Gotta keep 'er classy, so like, yeah, shields are a MUST.
The Selling of the Shields for street cars marked the day Ferrari lost its soul. And I had a black 550 with shields, and they did look nice. But....
Paint shop and detailer today noticed my black calipers we’re fading,So you get your wish yellow it is ..
Shields should be reserved for factory team cars, not even race cars of privateers. That's how it used to be. They put them on the 288 and everyone loved them. The 288 was built for Group B racing. I think the day they became an option on regular production cars, including CS and Scuderias is the day Ferrari sold its soul. I could live with them coming on the hyper cars (288, F40, F50, Enzo, LaF), but that's about it. Now, I will admit, when I bought my 550 Maranello I was looking for a car without shields and ended up buying an awesome example with shields, and they did look pretty nice. But I never would have ordered them. The soul selling continued with idiotically priced options. I wish they would just raise the base price of the cars and charge realistic prices for the cup holders and other nonsense.
So someone else pointed out a car I’m interested in doesn’t have shields. I never noticed it prior to him pointing it out. I do love the look of the shields on this car in this color. Is it even a thing or possible to add them after the fact and if so, is it not advisable? https://www.postoakmotors.com/vehicle-details/used-2016-ferrari-california-t-houston-tx-id-37203455
They're out there to add, and Kinkos will print vinyl race numbers you can add to the door and hood...... to "go with the faux".
I wouldn’t buy a car with sheilds or even a red car. 288 f40 excepted. I dont know why one needs to restate they’re in a Ferrari. I guess Ferrari is a “brand” now and designer products need labels or something.
It's not a deal breaker for me. If a car I want doesn't have shields, great. If a car I want has shield, no biggie.
