I bought it a year ago in November. We had an early December snowstorm last year, but I hadn’t had time to get new wheels and mount snow tires. That was the only snowstorm all winter A snowstorm hit last night and into the morning, dumping 12” of snow. It was perfect because I had a load of toys to take to Ferrari of New England. Today was their annual Toys for Tots drive.

Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
    (with apologies to Sammy Cahn)

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the FF drives so delightful
And since we’ve places to go
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

It doesn't show signs of stopping
But we’re still going Christmas shopping
The manettino is turned down low
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

    When we finally kiss goodnight
How we'll love going out in the storm
And if you'll really hold me tight
We won’t need heated seats to keep warm

    The fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, we're still goodbying
But as long as you love me so
We’ll hop in the FF and go!

OK, I have a question. I just read through the manual and I couldn't find anything on it.

I always use the paddles but since I was driving in the snow for the first time I left the car in auto mode. I noticed when I got on the highway the car wouldn't shift out of 4th gear when in snow/ice mode setting on the manettino. I had to hit the upshift paddle to move the gears up to 5th and 6th. I know that the front wheel drive only operates up to 4th gear.

Does it stay in 4th when in snow/ice mode? Is this normal, the way it is supposed to work?

That sounds off. My Lusso definitely don't do this, and I'm very sure my FF didn't either. If I put my Lusso in Ice, it actually keeps the rpm very low and quickly shift up into 6th or 7th.

Are you pressing the Auto button, or is the car in Auto Easy Off? If the latter, this might be why.

Have you tried switching to Manual and then back to Auto while driving on the freeway? Driving on the freeway in fourth in the snow is not a great idea. At those rpm you have a lot of torque on tap and the rear wheels easily overpower the small amount of power that goes to the front. Remember that only about 100 hp can be sent forward at most, everything above goes to the rear.

Might want to have your dealer update the TCU.

Not nessecarily. It is also dependent on speed, throttle input, rpm etc. The 4RM system is active in all gears, but the above mentioned things matter.

Just to clarify, the 4RM system remains active in all driving modes but not in all gears. The PTU only has 2 forward gears and they cover the speed range that the DCT box has in gears 1-4. Above 4th, the PTU cannot physically keep up and disengages.

This is why the car is holding 4th gear for as long as possible in ice mode. Some drivers may find it holds 4th for longer than others depending on the conditions as the car can sense the tractability of the road surface.

Thanks for that info. I didn't press the Auto button, I simply didn't use the paddles when I accelerated. The car always starts in Auto and then normally I use the paddles. When I saw the car wasn't shifting to 5th gear I did hit the paddle and it upshifted, but I didn't push the Auto button. I don't think I'll have a chance to take the car out today, but I definitely will tomorrow and try out your suggestions.

I agree I definitely don't want the car stuck in 4th at highway speeds.

You were not wrong about the PTU disengaging above 4th gear. However, I’m not sure of the ice mode logic for auto shifts to 5th and above.

We had a inch of snow last night and our town dropped a ton of salt on the roads so I didn't want to take the FF out. We're away for 2 weeks starting tomorrow, so the test will have to wait.

At the far right is Ernie Boch Jr., the owner of FNE. The toys displayed are just a fraction of what were donated. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Congratulations! 47 years is a long time, that’s fantastic, not many couples last that long. :)
