I have a 2007 coupe here. I was going to take her out for a little spin today and I notice a pool of fluid at the back when I was taking off the car cover. After checking things out a bit, I took off the rear defuser to investigate some more. After looking around a bit I found the source of it. Looks like the seal on the gearbox is leaking. All in all I am guessing there is about 1/2 of gear oil that came out. How common is it for the seal to go out? Anyone have a guess on what the damage is going to be to get the seal replaced?

Can it be the banjo nut / fitting on oil cooler line ?

Hmmm.... let me check that. The main thing I noticed was gear oil on the two seems of the metal piece the lines/banjo connects to before my heart sank.

Rule #1 with a leak, trace upward. In your second photo the fluid appears to go juuuust up to the banjo fitting. Looks like there may be a tiny ooze from the side of the fitting closest to the gearbox.

New crush washers and re-torque may be all that's needed to stop it. Fingers crossed.

Quick diagnose would be to hit the dirty portions with some all-purpose cleaner (if you use simplegreen don't let it sit, have water handy to flush it off thoroughly--simple green and aluminum are disagreeable when left to sit for extended time) until it's squeaky clean, leave the undertray/diffuser off, and fire up the car and let it idle. See if you can catch it actively leaking.

what seal? I don't see any seal in the pic...????
The 2 photographs are insufficient to determine the source of the leak.

The crush gaskets on the banjo fitting. Good chance that’s the culprit. I had a leak on my F1 actuator that was a crush gasket. Easy fix.

1- are you certain it’s gear oil. No assumptions about your abilities. but gear oil should have a very specific odor.

2- have you or anyone done anything to the car recently eg. A service or add any oil?

After some more investigation and analysis, the leak is definitely coming from the plastic transmission filter. Looks like the oil/stain from the banjo fitting was sometime in the past before I bought the car. Besides www.ricambiamerica.com or www.scuderiacarparts.com does anyone know of a good source for parts? The shipping for scuderiacarparts is a killer.

Have you checked eueospares.co.uk yet? I make no statements about comparison vs the other two but it's another option that exists.

I was going to pick up a couple of oil filters, crush washers, and a couple other things while I was at it. I need my first born son and a second mortgage to buy the items at my local Ferrari stealership.

When I changed my gear oil, I changed the filter too. It was $85 for the filter and I think it came with an O-ring. The filter had some crud on it, yours probably will too. Just change out the whole filter and start fresh.

    I got mine from Ricambi.
