I am looking for one possibly two of the Magnet Marelli. Does anyone have a used or new for sale? Or has anyone had experience with a newer version of this system? I appreciate any input.

Is something wrong with your current boxes?

Yes the engine is spitting and kicking out and my mechanic has diagnosed it back to Digiplex. When the Digiplex is moved the engine shuts down. He said we might as well changed both. Has anyone else had a similar problem? It seems like a antiquated system.

    Try Ricambi a sponsor here.

They rebuild boxes with new guts and software.

The 84's have a little relay that can misbehave and make the car act like yours.

Does the 82 have the same?

Hi waymar, your message is some years ago, but I have now a need for a MED801A as mine seems broke. Do still have it available or know ways to get them repaired?
    Thanks!
(Sorry, seems I cannot write PMs or do not know how to operate this platform correctly :-(

Here in the US, David Feinberg is the expert at "rebuilding" (really more vastly improving/redesigning) the Ferrari Digiplex ECU:

if you can't find a working used replacement at reasonable cost.

I bought a pair for my QV at Ebay. There’s usually some Digiplex for sale there, or like Steve said you can get yours repair.

So sorry. Sold my last Digiplex on EBay last week. I fully support David Feinberg on rebuilding these units. I have two MED802A rebuilds in service now and have been working perfectly for many years. They build in a soft rev limiter which is great. Cheers

    • 32-bit ARM processor for razor sharp timing.
    • Modern 3D ignition curve mapping software replaces outdated clunky eight curve design.

Is this modification something you can really tell a difference?

Can't comment about that as I haven't used both (but my guess would be probably not -- unless the values have been tweaked as well). For me, the attraction would be these reliability items:
    • Unlike original units, will continue to run even with RPM pickup sensor failure.
    • All high-grade surface mount technology parts for maximum resistance to shock, vibration and heat.
    • Conformal coating on circuit board for protection against moisture.
    • Surge protected against up to 100 volt spikes to protect against dirty jump starters, failed alternators, bad wiring, and other potential hazards.
Although not listed, I believe the mechanical LVDT measuring the vacuum (which is a common failure item) is replaced by a more modern pressure measuring IC (like used on the later Microplex ignition ECUs).

So really they are only offering a more durable product in the event of a needed repair with no performance increase.

More durable -- and 40 years younger (which is about the max life expectancy for any PCBA construction). If I needed a replacement used MED801A and could get one for ~$200, I'd do that as it wouldn't be much of a penalty if it failed in a year or two. However, if the price was thousand(s), I'd consider doing the upgrade. IMO, like the 1-piece diff carrier in the flat-12s, doing this change is a saleable plus.

    Tobias,
I have a set that I can make available since no longer needed. My car has only 20k miles. Let me know.
