When I first looked at this it appeared (to me) as though the 747 was on approach. lol

My bad! Guess I overcropped it. Let me try it again with the runway in sight. AAL plane taxiing for takeoff. SWA and DAL at gates. COVID19 travel drop related planes stored on the far right (I forgot about those in my first post but a lot stored at Marana and Tucson Intl). F16s bottom left. Private jets also bottom left. 747 parked top left. :) Crazy airplane stuff here in one shot...

edit: I haven't flow since January 2020, but I love waiting to depart from that airport. They usually have three F16Ds fly up back to back to back and it's incredible how loud they are given the proximity to the terminal and single engine.

I *think* there were 3 P-38’s at the last Chino Airshow I went to back around 2006. Including Glacier Girl.

Steve Hinton accidentally dropped a wing tank on a Russian MiG. IIRC

The info I find online about the picture says Italy 1944. They do look like 6s though. The Spitfires were last in operation in 1961 by the Irish. (which is a lot later that I would have thought)

Yeah, it's 44, just written funny. Interesting photo, rare in colo(u)r for the period. Considering how late it was (July 1944), it's surprising that the Spitfires are still Mk. Vc's, which were rather obsolete by then.

Got it! 44 But is this 'maintenance' or 'breaking'?

I think they may be cannibalizing the aircraft closest to the camera, perhaps to support the other two.

Looks more like North Africa in 1942 or 1943 since those are MK Vs with tropical kit. Maybe Malta.

I can detect a Volks Filter on the middle airplane and the stark terrain with what appears to be water in the background would indicate a place like Malta,

Looks a bit like the individuals standing on the wing of the second plane might be of the fairer sex.

This(?) one just flew over my cuckoos nest about 10-15 minutes ago.
I heard it take off from Riverside Municipal a minute or two earlier, while tuning carburetors on a 365 GTB/4.
The sound of it taking off was so intoxicatingly delicious I had to pause and pay attention to see if it would swing by above me.
