Post-purchase mods - yes or no?

    Got an 812SF yesterday (my first F-car), in a spec very close to what I would have ordered myself. But I am thinking about adding a splash of carbon fiber to the interior. Specifically, the Carbon Fiber Bridge, and the Carbon Fiber Dash Inserts.

    My biggest concern is about how well things will be put together afterwards. My experience with multiple other manufacturers has been that a dealer's service department, for all their talent, experience, and dedication, rarely can achieve in a one-off process the levels of fit, finish, and rigidity that the factory can produce, with their experience with these specific tasks, the ability to do things in an optimal order rather than after the car is finished, and with the support of appropriate automation.

    Also on my radar, though much less of a concern, is how this kind of thing would affect the car's desirability down the road when the time comes to trade or sell.

    Any thoughts?

    Fit and finish on a repair is extremely dependant on the technician skill, and will to make it right. It can definitely be equal to factory finish, and it's not that complicated to do either. With regards to desirability, just keep the original bits with you and sell them with the car.

    While its possible, I dont think those items would induce any new squeaks or rattles. Unlike suspension or bodywork mods, I don’t think this would affect resale value. Besides, these things are easily reversible.

    With that said, I suggest you live with it for a little while and then decide. You can always get these things done and you might find you like the look as it is. But if it really bothers you, the good news is this is easily addressed.

    Thanks. I always keep all original parts, paperwork, accessories, etc., often going as far as buying a second item (like, say, floor mats) and using that second item so that the one that came with the car remains in perfect condition. Maybe that's a little over the top, but whatever.

    Thanks - I definitely plan on giving it at least a couple of months before I decide. If I pull the trigger, I'll probably have it done at the same time I switch back to summer tires.

    That's a really interesting idea that I hadn't considered, thanks.

    If you replace the non carbon parts with OEM carbon parts then originality is not going to be an issue for another 40 years until some anal owner is going to want to restore their barn find to the ‘ex-factory’ spec. Hell, by that time your car may not even be road legal if the greens get their way.

    Life is too long to live with a compromise. If you want the carbon, go for it. The bridge should be easily swapped with little risk of squeaks and rattles. Replacing the dash insert requires more work but as mentioned above, should be achievable with a conscientious technician.

    I don't think that is over the top at all. In fact I think that is a very wise thing to do.

    BTW, I agree with Caeruleus11, live with for a while.
