What do you guys use on the rubber seals and trim?

I have been using Napa's Sil-Glyde Lubricating Compound with excellent results. I believe other companies make a Sil-Gyde type product as well. The only downside is that is in a tube and I have always applied it with my fingers. Just a bit messy but it has kept my rubber seals flexible on all of my toy cars. I have used it since 2001 on a Corvette and the seals have not dried or cracked.

Been using this on my S-2000 and other cars since 2004. Works as advertised.

Another vote for Shin-Etsu grease.

 

I thought you weren't supposed to use silicone on the rubber that it can eventually cause issues.

 

Might be a chemical issue between silicon and silicone- one is natural and the other is man-made. Can any chemists weigh in?

 

I'm using the Sonax rubber care product - working well so far.

 

Agree with above post. I've been using ShinEtsu Silicone. Excellent! Recommended to me by a fellow FerrariChat member. Highly recommend.

I've been using the Sonar with great results. For a couple of areas on different cars I use Krytox. It's more expensive but I first started using it for convertible top seals. I also use a rubber cleaner first on any new-to-me car. I use a rubber roller cleaner made for copy and fax machines. Once the seal is clean I just continue with one of the aforementioned products.

easy to use and keeps them soft

Another vote for Shin-Etsu for rubber seals. Use a dedicated rubber cleaner first to remove old protectant, dirt, etc. I find using your fingers while wearing a nitrile glove works best for working the Shin-Etsu grease into the seals.

Another use for the Shin-Etsu is to apply it to your cars rubber hoses, after cleaning them first. It imparts protection to the exterior rubber and leaves a factory looking new appearance.
FYI, Shin-Etsu isn't cheap, about $12 a tube at Honda.

 

Hi Corey, Gummi Pfleger is an awesome product. I use it. It is perfect for plumping up old weatherstripping and making it look juicy again. It quiets creaks, etc. Originally lots of BMW guys were using it, but it seems some car guys in the know are in on it now. It’s a good product.

When I park a car in the garage,I close the doors only to the first click and use the trunk and hood releases (I leave the hood up until the engine has cooled) . The interior lights may stay on until a timer turns them off. That way the door seals and other seals are compressed only when I am using the car. They stay soft and plump indefinitely (19 years in the case of my Corvette).

 

I've used both the Shin-Etsu and CarPro PERL Plastic Engine Rubber Leather Protectant, both are good. I don't use the PERL on leather though, only rubber and plastic.

 

I tried that one on my 458 door seals, looked great after I applied it and 1 week later back to the dull gray look.

To recondition and feed seals: I use Swissvax Seal Feed fluid. Works really good [emoji846]
