I have a supercharged 993 turbo bodied cab (similar to turbo just with no lag and more torque) and a gated ‘99 GTB. The driving experience is so different between the 2 it’s hard to really compare the cars.

Like previously said, the 993 feels like a solid rock with a too short first gear but you feel the power early in the RPM range. Understeer is my biggest handling complaint but I’m sure that could be improved with a different suspension setup. It’s just well built and instills reliability confidence.

355 feels so light, smooth, easy to drive at lower rpm’s. I was surprised the first few times in it. The emotion you get in the 355 is 2x the 993 especially over 5k and the click of the gate.....(drool)

355 is smaller inside though so tight fit for taller guys like me (6’5”)

that car has been for sale at that dealer for 3 years.

I believe it has been repainted possibly color changed. It also had major issues with its f1 system causing them to pull their ads until issues addressed. For some reason I also remember response issues from the dealer

I’m not saying it’s a bad car, but it does have some history that could use clarification.

Yeah I struggle to fathom how it received so many dollars and still look so average. Love to see the breakdown of that invoice.

My guess would be valve guides. Full major with deferred items addressed. Black horse is respected I think? They've been through a lot of 355s from what I've seen.

That car with a weekends worth of work "deghetto"ing it would leave you with a very nice 95 gated Berlinetta.

Definitely will be a nice car with some minor corrective work. I just think having a throw away line like 63k in service at the last one without a proper breakdown of what was done doesn’t help sell it. Might give the perception its a basket case to a potential buyer.

In 2014 the black car was only worth $63k. Also, most cars shown in pictures look "average". If you strip out the window tint and put stock wheel on the car I bet there would be a totally different opinion of the car here.

Yes, he wonders if in 20 years or so if the 355 will be like the what the Dino is today. And notice, the two 355s he has in his show room are spiders. :)

For someone who has yet to drive their 355, please stop denigrating the F1 transmission! They are a total blast and work great if maintained by competent people. The rest of what you say I agree with. A F1 Berlinetta is fantastic all day long. It’s people regurgitating this miss information that is the problem, not the car.

I bought my car from Black Horse five years ago and was not impressed with the recent major service it had received. FYI. Tranny oil hadn’t even been flushed !

I just bought it skip, cut me some slack. It's getting delivered shortly and we're in dead winter here so I still won't get to drive it until at least April lol. But my point is that based on the overall I don't see why 993 turbos are 90k usd more than 355s. They're more usable and more reliable IMO and maybe slightly faster that's it. But the 355 makes the 993 look like the fat girl at the dance but is bitchier overall from what I've read. But when 355 is on she's on, again from what I've read. So is reliability alone worth 90k? That's what I don't get.

Slack granted and welcome to the club. I just get very tired of people spewing negative F1 opinions when they’ve never driven one. Enjoy your new car !

Trying to compare these two models (355/993) is a real apple/orange situation. What hasn't been pointed out is the turbo is an icon in the Porsche lineup and the last of the even bigger icon, the air cooled motor. People want the last of a good thing. One only has to look at the 996tt and see a car much advanced but of different architecture being water cooled and the purists wince and a really nice one today is worth about a third of the 993. I've owned both air and water Porsche turbos and the 996 is a real bargain for someone looking for a reliable high performance Porsche.

    He didn't spend $63K on a major. It's obviously a typo.

I'm sure he spent that...just wasn't only a major. Most likely valve guides were toast (early car) and had them replaced...along with all the reconditioning / refurbishing while they were in there.

That said...it's possible the invoice was inflated since it was the dealers own shop doing the work.

My 95 had valve guides, all new valves, a bunch of lifters and a lot of other stuff in 2013 when I bought it. No where close to $63k. I've see complete engine rebuilds for significantly less than that. Doesn't make any sense at all.

Like I said refurbishment etc. at dealer rates "while you're in there" could add up to that. And also as I stated I'm assuming black horse sold the car and black horse the shop (subsidiary or connected corp maybe) did the work. So the $60k spent real cost to the owner of the business was probably 1/4 or less. Just a theory...
