Yes it was my grandfathers...They had a lot of cars there as they were all heavily into motor racing...
I've got a book called "K3 Dossier " and it gives the full account of the cars history . Your mentioned apart from not being licensed to fly a 747-400F
I think from the 50s to 1980 When Paul Samuels who built Wakefield after Amaroo closed sponsored the family to come to Australia..
They built Alfa's also in South Africa. Its fantastic you have the Cooper-Bristol ,could race that anywhere in the world ,great meeting . Paul Samuels I sold him my last S3 Flying Spur. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I remember that car! He used to park it out the front of his shop - forget the name "House of MG" or "MG Garage"... something like that. It was a few years ago!
This was covered some time ago. Owned by a bloke called Bruce Croft.....if what I've supplied here is the business. https://www.goldcoastmgcarclub.com.au/wp-content/uploads/TM-JuneJuly14-NM14Extract.pdf https://www.google.com/search?q=Rod+Hilleys+mg+k3&sxsrf=ALeKk00MEexpitJDbZqc0kkMSf7_4hVYNQ:1612778987549&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=yRfBNpp-VQTGWM%252CIy0BENchcJOEjM%252C_&vet=1&usg=AI4_-kQBKnJXoymD7bHS2jJRw5_8ZtvDHg&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjjl531hdruAhXDyzgGHSDzAQMQ9QF6BAgWEAE#imgrc=yRfBNpp-VQTGWM
I drove my Mini Cooper S all the way to Sydney, did Oran Park on Saturday, and Amaroo on Sunday (free practice). Both had nasty concrete walls just as you hit the front straight, but I found Amaroo by far the more interesting - that blind crest was awesome! I remember the same year, a Qld bloke (forget who) in a very fast sports racer with a DFV engine in it had his throttle stick open over that crest and just about launched into space. He survived with two broken legs, I think, but I don't know what happened to the car. It turned out later that he had fiddled with the butterflies and adjusted them incorrectly.
Funny story about Rod - he'd just finished a long restore on an AH3000, and was presenting it to the owner. There was a bit of fluff on the roof (it had a hardtop), and he grabbed a fresh rag to wipe it off, not noticing the staple in it. He put a foot long scratch in the paint.
That sounds familiar! Now that you've jogged my memory, I thought it was Bap Romano, or maybe that was a nickname?
Yep,House of MG Abingdon Motors, still operating. I used to buy bits and get free info from Rod for my TD.
