Yes it was my grandfathers...They had a lot of cars there as they were all heavily into motor racing...

The family had a garage and were Alfa and Bristol Agents...

I think from the 50s to 1980 When Paul Samuels who built Wakefield after Amaroo closed sponsored the family to come to Australia..

 

They built Alfa's also in South Africa.

Its fantastic you have the Cooper-Bristol ,could race that anywhere in the world ,great meeting .

I remember that car! He used to park it out the front of his shop - forget the name "House of MG" or "MG Garage"... something like that. It was a few years ago!

 

It’s amazing that it stayed in Australia Pat...The 250 GTO of the MG world...

I drove my Mini Cooper S all the way to Sydney, did Oran Park on Saturday, and Amaroo on Sunday (free practice). Both had nasty concrete walls just as you hit the front straight, but I found Amaroo by far the more interesting - that blind crest was awesome! I remember the same year, a Qld bloke (forget who) in a very fast sports racer with a DFV engine in it had his throttle stick open over that crest and just about launched into space. He survived with two broken legs, I think, but I don't know what happened to the car. It turned out later that he had fiddled with the butterflies and adjusted them incorrectly.

 

My +8 raced at Oran....and had an off which led to the complete resto....and minimal use since.

 

well there now a million plus .I think there is 3 or 4 still in Australia

 

Funny story about Rod - he'd just finished a long restore on an AH3000, and was presenting it to the owner. There was a bit of fluff on the roof (it had a hardtop), and he grabbed a fresh rag to wipe it off, not noticing the staple in it. He put a foot long scratch in the paint.
