I got tired of staring at my Ferrari in the garage, unable to drive it during the winter, so I convinced my wife to let me trade in my Porsche SUV for a GTC4 Lusso for my daily driver, taking delivery next week. I’m not too concerned about the snow, especially with the four-wheel-drive and Michelin Pilot Alpins that were just fitted. But I’m a little worried about the cold, especially the type of subzero cold snap that we are having in the Midwest this week. Given the sensitive batteries that Ferraris have, do I need to be concerned about leaving my car outside all day at work in single digit temps? Anyone else use their Lusso as a true daily driver in all seasons?

Looks great. Is that car still listed? I thought I saw it this morning. I don’t know but we got 5+ inches last week and I saw a Lusso on the road. Looked like it was doing great! I want one again..

You’ll be fine as long as your plug it in when you get home. I did a 5 day trip through Norway and it was fine. I’m pretty sure temperatures were considerably colder. You’re right it’s amazing. It doesn’t care if it’s snow, ice or hail. It’s a marvel. Congratulations and enjoy in excellent health!

was just bought about 6 days ago, so it might still be listed on autotrader. I’ll have to look. Stripped down with very few options, but it has the V12 which is all that mattered to me

Congratulations! As long as you are driving it frequently you should be totally fine. If you are using it less than every other day, I would recommend plugging in, but some have gone longer with no need.

    You won't be disappointed.

Add in the Capristo Exhaust Valve Controller, Brooke Race Inconel Center X-Pipe, and Brooke Race Inconel Rear Silencers, and you basically have a pretty civil GT touring car as well as a V12 F1 car at the press of a button. I've been lucky to own some pretty cool cars over the years, and this one is by far the best sounding that i've ever owned.

If you're worried about a dead battery, just get the AntiGravity battery and you're set.

If you are driving it daily you'll be fine. I have a FF and it's out all the time. It's been a relatively warm winter here so far, but we did have a couple nights in the single digits.

do you park it outside in those cold winter nights? Mine will be in a heated garage at night, but sometimes left outside for 8-10 hours while I’m at work

Yes, it it is outside 24/7/365. I don't have space for it in my garage. When it's going to snow I throw an all weather cover on it.

Just make sure you have windshield washer fluid good to at least -30 so it doesn't freeze and crack the reservoir.

My Lusso is the winter daily. Lives outside, never plugged in, temps are currently -4 to -7 C daily. Changed battery, but it was killed after sitting in storage for four months with no charger.

My car has rust proofing underneath, which is a must. Consider rubber mats if you have lots of snow.

As you don't know the condition of your battery, just have it changed - why worry.

The Antigravity works great, but depending on how easy you want everything to be as a new owner, also consider the Braille B10049 AGM battery. The latter is 100% plug and play and ridiculously strong for an AGM.
If you are interested in the Lithium Antigravity, use the H8 80ah version. Don't forget that you will need the CTek XS charger and an adapter for connecting to the magnetic plug on the back.

Be aware that the winter tyre Ferrari fits has,a VERY low profile for the weight. There are zero rim protection to be had if you live in an area with potholes. Just something to be aware of. More and more are switching to winter tyres with more diameter for a better ride and better wheel protection. I will do the same after this season when my winter shoes are done.

    Have fun and enjoy

My wife drove her Lusso daily for almost 2 years, all weather conditions in Chicago area.
No issues or problems, had run flat Blizzaks on in Winter.
The only thing was dirty looks from SUV drivers at Whole Foods parking lot.
Increasing crime, carjackings in particular, forced her to trade it for something less inconspicuous, R.Rover SVR.
A good looking Blonde in a Ferrari was just too much for some people around here (former V-Miss Universe).

Posts like the one above will inevitably require pics...

I got mine in July, but have used it as a daily since. Last wash in October next one planned for April...
Have had no issues in snow or ice. Traction is very good, I'm on Michelin Alpins.

On the battery - I don't know if this is true, but I was told by the owner of a dealership that it's better not to use trickle charger if you are using the car frequently. He said the battery becomes less efficient over time, with constant charging.
I sometimes leave cars in airport carparks for extended periods, so I did experiment when I was away for a week, and left it off charge in garage, and there was no problem starting.
So, I then left it another 6 days, and it had then gone into limp mode, full system failure!
It did start though, and an overnight on charger got rid of all the warnings.

So, I'd now leave Lusso for up to 10 days, but no more. Definitely no need to charge daily if using.

This was at an ice track at Livigno, Italy. I signed up with my dealer in conjunction with the debut of the 812 in Maranello. Rumor is there will be more on Ice soon.

I want them to do one here in the US. I know Subaru normally does an ice rally event for special customers and people 'in the know' here in the US. Ferrari should do one at the same place.

Hopefully that's not the case. I thought smart chargers, ie good CTEK chargers, are supposed to be smart.

Took delivery and first drive today. Even on the Pilot Alpin, it’s not awesome on the hard pack snow that we have in the upper Midwest these days. But it’s serviceable enough, and I can’t wait to live with the V12 on the daily!

Which mode are you driving in? Anything more than snowflake mode on snow covered roads is a handful.

Yes, I started out in “comfort” and quickly realized that “snowflake” was the way to go. It’s -2 degrees Fahrenheit today (-19 Celsius), so it will be a good test today!

The weight, size of contact patch and also the systems, mean it's never going to be something to throw around on the snow. Drive it sensibly though, and it can go most places very well.

Have mine out today, and thought of this thread...

Yes, I'm not saying it's a fact, but was told that by someone who sells a lot of Ferraris.
Either way, it definitely doesn't need daily charging if being used frequently

I have left mine without a charge for about 1 week and it was fine.. I think maybe with a cold garage might be less.

On a road trip vacation, I left it a full week in the hotel parking lot in Luzern, Switzerland (summer time though). I had the Blackvue dashcam working the whole 7 days, which means the battery never drained below 12V. And it started without any issue.
