Interesting tale ,bought her 1st Rolls-Royce before the war rego number #130.Years later my father bought the Rolls-Royce for the rego number . Her Silver Shadow ran the number # SS130.You would have seen it around South Yarra/Toorak with a black vinyl roof..
Yeah there are plenty of $20kish stuff around...I'm not the bloke with the Russian roulette pistol about to take the plunge though...the Benz looks and sounds the business though. https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/1968-bentley-t-auto/SSE-AD-6118375/?Cr=14 https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/1986-bentley-turbo-r-auto/SSE-AD-6533338/?Cr=15 https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/1971-rolls-royce-silver-shadow-mk-i-auto/SSE-AD-7012739/?Cr=6 Try this little honey https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/1971-rolls-royce-silver-shadow-mk-i-auto/SSE-AD-7051152/?Cr=7 ...and it's mainland mate...great for the DIYer: https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/1973-rolls-royce-silver-shadow-mk-i-auto/SSE-AD-7054455/?Cr=11 They're cheeep for a reason!
I'd take a punt on the '71 SS as long as it came with a RWC. My old '68 T Series in over 8,000 miles as been a pure joy. But yes plenty of rats out there .
So, thanks to WRXMIKE I won't get as much time to annoy you lot because he sent me the procedure to paint my wheels and I just started !! FMD, the paint on these wheels is going to take forever to strip off !!! Thanks Michael, I should have just sent my wheel down to you and got you to repaint it !! And BTW, thanks for the gravity feed spray gun I'm going to teach myself artistic painting and do my helmet as well
Sure are. Mine was a very nice 34,000 mile car with deferred maintenance issues. It swallowed over 250 hours and almost the purchase price to get it to the standard I wanted. And that's almost no cosmetic attention. The W116 Benz is great too, I have one from 1974. You have to watch for rust in the firewall around the fan box and the usual old car stuff. But the labour to recommission the 350 versus a SS will be about the same. The SS will swallow a little more in the braking system but that's about it. Parts prices are not that different.
I just googled her, died 6/1 this year, at 95. I used to see her around the village all the time. Good innings.
Its a credit to you that SS (sorry to be sinister ) Joke. Its a ripper ,so many are to far gone to survive .Unless there a coachbuilt like that Bentley T MPW David had. Richmonds in Adelaide have an interesting MPW.
It would have been in the 1980s I walked past her and the Silver Shadow as she as getting parking ticket. She was unloading bags from the boot and I drew her attention to the parking officer with his pad. She thanked me for the observation but explained she always parked in no standing areas because she was terrified of damage to the car. Very funny. Must have been one of the few daily driven SSs around. Surprised she only did 140,000 kms. What did Morrie drive?
