Geez you never give up huh,, So because your reading skills might not be up to par, I will explain it in detail.. I didn’t deny anything,,as there was nothing to deny.. I asked who services your car then you later replied that Tim would never leave an oil drip, or words to that effect..so I concluded that Tim services your car.. Then you said “Apologies to all for bringing it up” well I’m part of ‘All’ so I accepted your apology.. So, please do us ‘All’ a favour and stop quoting me and replying to my posts.. We have been asked by Wax and by others on here to stop..
Your memory is failing you. I suppose that explains it. I didn't say who my mechanic is. You're right there was nothing to explain, because my question was rhetorical....more of an accusation, really. I don't quite understand why you'd ask a question just so you had something to vilify me about though. That's just odd IMO
They were a great car for what they were BUT, they had no brakes to speak of, the torsion bar suspension was like a Cobb and Co coach and yet it handled reasonably well I saw mine for sale some time back for $180K, no idea if they got that for it but at the time it was more expensive than the Ferrari I had by a long way
Yep,you'll possibly remember Peter Wherrett saying on his show,'they'd be a great car after a damn good accident'...coz they'd be rebuilt to a better standard!
My father brought one home for a couple of days when they were near new. Didn't buy it as clutch was too heavy for a daily driven car for him.
Peter Wherrett's thing was hanging sh*t on local cars, then praising anything from Europe. He was typical of the ABC's condescending attitude. Take a look at the cars the average British or French middle class person had to choose from in 1971. If they could have bought a 300hp 4 seat car for the equivalent of $4K they'd have queued out the door. Instead they got an equally shoddily built MGB "sports" car with 12 seconds 0-60.
Because that was a standard car? Anyway, I would only compare it to similar class cars. I didn't think I'd have to spell that out.
The discussion was about an E38 Charger, which finished 7th at the Bathurst 500, a race for showroom cars in those days. In front of it were GTHO's and XU1's. The best european was a FIAT 124 in 24th.
Yeah, the clutch was heavier than the brake from memory and the seats were "sit on" rather than "sit in" Still I was 19 and thought the 1/4 mile in 13.8 was fast..... never got it any higher than 120 (some road tests said it could do 140 .... no way) I reckon if you got to 100 mph and hit the brakes it would take 2 football fields to stop
Nothing has changed re the ABC, all its got going for it is British Drama's the rest I'll leave to the latte left to enjoy.
No, those 124s were brilliant cars, I had a 124AC/BC, would do 100 mph all day without batting an eyelid
In '73 Ray Harrison frightened the shoit out a lot of folk when he finished 8th outright in a 2lt GTV (105)....in front of a Charger and 2 XU1's..... ...but there were almost a record number of retirements...
