In hope they do, but the rules dictate that they are hamstrung by previous mistakes.

2021 probably isn’t going to be great, Binotto is right to say so, but I don’t think this is due to lack of ambition.

If the car is really the third on pure pace, i have no doubt Charles will win a couple of races this year.

They won races in 2015 when they didn't in 2014.

Yep, but in 2014 they were 4th, and there wasn´t a chassis freeze nor a big regulations change for 2016, so I expect less improvement now.

I was watching the 2019 Japanese GP last night and it occured to me what the 2020 problem was.

In 2019 Ferrari had class leading power and just needed a bit more downforce to be completely equal to Mercedes.
So, Ferrari were building a 2020 chassis that had the downforce needed to take the fight to Merc
and with that downforce comes drag, Drag Ferrari could afford with their then current engine power.
But, the engine regulation change, reduced Ferrari power and without sufficient time to "loose the drag"
So, Ferrari ended up with too little power and too much drag.......

I would rather hear the car than read Bin-ozzo’s posts. Is anyone else thoroughly annoyed with this guy...? He was so much better as a silent engineer crunching numbers.

So, very strict adherence to no structural changes (without use of token), only aero changes.

Hopefully they can work around the structure of the nose to change that too.

The Steiner quote here is somewhat worrisome if indeed Haas are using the back-end of Ferrari’s 2021 car, especially the engine and even the gearbox part. Unless by “engine” he means the controls interfaces and by “gearbox” it’s just the gearbox internals and not the housing and suspension pick-ups.

    https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.covid-restrictions-prevent-haas-from-firing-up-ferrari-engine-until-pre.70FQAkY1QhBSTDEh3BxW8O.html

“With the engine, there are a lot of the parts are carried over. The gearbox is carried over, too, and parts like the wiring harnesses.”

I think the 2019 car has got to be one of the more bizarre F1 cars this millennium. The low drag and lower downforce concept combined with enormous power in an era where ultimate downforce is everything is so bizarre. With the power they had they could easily sacrifice some drag in order to get more downforce and they would've likely won the title. Had they simply stuck the 2019 engine in the 2018 car they would've been champions. The 2018 car had pretty good downforce and a reasonable chassis but lacked some power.

I would hope indeed that he means the internals and not the casing...But with Ferrari having already said that the rear end is changed I'm confident that it's just interpreted a bit wrong. Imagine sticking with that horrible rear...

This (team principle = Binotto) is a failure to observer the Peter Principle!

For those unfamiliar, the vast majority of people are cable oof performing at a given level and if they do not get promoted beyond the level they are capable, they will have a long and productive career. On the other hand if they are promoted, the become unable to perform the duties of that higher position.

The solution to the Peter Principle is the Peter Prescription!

Do not accept a promotion to a level beond which you are competent.

    Multi-year Innovation Partnership renewed between
Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow and Shell

    Maranello 18 February 2021

The decades long technical and commercial agreement continues in a multi-year partnership with focus on sustainability and technology transfer, from track to road. This new chapter of one of the longest partnerships in motor sport will see the Scuderia and Shell working together not just in search of wins on the track, but also in defining the regulations relating to the power units of the future. The successful longstanding relationship over the years has produced 22 titles in the FIA Formula One World Championships – 10 Constructors’ and 12 Drivers’.

Mattia Binotto Managing Director & Team Principal Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow

"The relationship between Scuderia Ferrari and Shell dates back to 1929, the year our team was founded. In that time we have produced so many victories together. We are delighted therefore that our collaboration is now set to go on even longer.

We share many common values, not least excellence, passion for racing and teamwork, which have made this partnership unique in the history of motor sport.

As our Innovation Partner we will continue to work with Shell on the transfer of racing technology to mobility as well as the ambitious challenges that lie ahead in particular the aim of Formula 1 to reach a net-zero emissions level by 2030."

István Kapitány Shell Global Executive Vice President for Mobility

"Our partnership with Ferrari has bred truly remarkable innovations – innovations that Shell regularly relies upon when developing new fuels and lubricants for our customers.

We’re now entering a very exciting time in our history together as we leverage this partnership to not only strive for success on the track, but also to develop cleaner fuels and lubricants for our customers."
