I have been looking at several 458 spiders and many of them seem to have a rear carbon bumper option.
For whatever reason I am more of a fan of the standard rear that is the same color as the car.

What is involved to go from the carbon option back to the standard?
    Is this expensive to do?
Is removing the carbon option a bad idea?
Any idea how much the rear carbon option was?

    Thanks!

The bumper is different .. so you would to get a new bumper/ or find a used one ( if you lucky in your color)
If new would need a respray
If you go the new route - probably I would guess somewhere in the area of 8 k depending who you get to install it and spray it
You would get some money back for your bumper and CF though
    Hope that helps

    You're crazy. :p

I believe it was something like a $4000 option. Going back to non-carbon will be very expensive. The bumper with the carbon connector is completely different from the one without, so you'd have to get an entirely new bumper.

Though if you do get one with a carbon connector, you may be able to swap with someone who has a "stock" one. That might be a cheaper way to go.

Thanks so much for the replies and info!

From what I was reading/researching it seems it is a lot of work/money for not much benefit.

Sounds like if I find the perfect car with a rear carbon option, I will have a perfect car with the rear carbon option.
It is not worth making that change.

Thanks for helping me understand the situation!

Let me know if you buy one in Rosso Scuderia with rear sensors and no backup camera. I'd be happy to swap and get a Carbon bumper. :D

    :) Will do.

I know it is a nice option and looks great.

For what ever reason I seem to like the stock backend look.

I agree! On the 458 the stock back end looks better! Now on an F430 the CF rear grill is bada$$!

Ugh. OP you need to buy a car with the carbon connector so we can swap. I think it looks incredible with the CF. More like the CS/Scud/Speciale line of cars.

No way, I love the carbon look in back. Plus it's a fairly rare option.

I’ve had 4 of these cars, and agree stock looks better. The carbon option isn’t 488 ugly, so I wouldn’t not buy a 458 that had the carbon, all things considered. I’ve owned both.

standard looks better. i do like the carbon on a yellow 458 though. that seems to pop. everything else is a bit disappointing.

Ha...I think the 488 rear end looks light years better than the 458. Not to mention the mustache front end! LOL
