Does the 456 GT have a filter to screen the air entering the passenger compartment, and if so, where is it located, and how easy is it to replace?

Open the bonnet. Look up near the windscreen on the passenger side. It is about 12 inches long, and 4 inches wide. Black aluminum mesh that holds the pollen filter.

Dan nailed it. Very easy to do and recommended with an annual service.

Considering it's construction and location, "sand filter" would be a more appropriate name for that item than "pollen filter".

Right, it takes a stretch of imagination to consider it a pollen filter!
Actually, the whole A/C and ventilation department is quite peculiar, to put it mildly.

Bring this thread from the dead.

How does this filter handle water? It's just made of wool mesh. How does the inlet keep water out of the system?

I understand most won't drive this car in the rain. But where does the water go when caught in the rain?

Incidentally, easy to swap out the filter material on your old frame. My techs did it all the time.
