This is a particularly rare Ferrari Girard-Perregaux Swiss chronograph. You'll note with its black dial and circular silver subdials, it's face is reminiscent of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona.....yet this Ferrari / Girard-Perregaux watch precedes the current Rolex Cosmograph Daytona and not only is it far more rare than the Rolex (Rolex produces ~14,000 of those watches per year where as this was a limited production piece), this watch made in partnership with Ferrari is a true motorsport-related watch. I never realized how hard it was to take photos of a watch until today and these photos do not do this watch justice. The watch is so vibrant in person with its black dial and bright silver ring subdials and crisp illuminating hands. This watch was recently serviced by Girard-Perregaux at a cost of over $1000. Included is a Ferrari Girard-Perregaux box and the books you see in the photos. Girard-Perregaux was founded in 1852 (more than 50 years before Rolex was founded in 1905). This is a truly spectacular time piece worth of any collection and the fact that it shares its lineage with Ferrari makes it that much more special. Price is $5900 including shipping.

Another photo showing watch in one of the books and here is some more information about the watch: This is a stainless steel Girard Perregaux Ferrari Chronograph F300, reference 8020. It has a nearly new Girard-Perregaux leather strap with stainless steel GP tang buckle with the prancing horse and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. There is a solid screw-down case back secured with 7 screws, and engraved with "Manufactured especially for Ferrari – Girard Perregaux," the Ferrari horse logo, the serial number, and reference number. It has round chronograph pushbuttons, and the 38 mm diameter solid three-body case, downturned lugs, and angled bezel are polished/brushed. The dial is black with luminous Arabic numeral hour markers, steel dauphine hands with luminous inserts, a center sweep chronograph hand with a red spade tip, around a luminescent minute/seconds scale. Around the perimeter is a tachymeter to 1000 uph, and the red F-300 logo is in the center of the dial. A date aperture window is between 4 and 5 o'clock. There are three subsidiary dials, including a 30-minute totalizer at the 9 o'clock position, a 12-hour sub dial is at 6 o'clock, and a constant small seconds dial with a red indicator is at 3 o'clock. It's water resistant to 30 meters/100 feet, and the 13mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Girard Perregaux Ferrari Chronograph F300, reference 8020, has a mechanical automatic self-winding Girard Perregaux caliber 2280 movement that's rhodium-plated, with fausses cotes embellishment. It's constructed with 57 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance, a self-compensating flat balance spring, a hacking seconds device for precision time setting, and a micrometer regulator. You'll note the photograph in the book shows the all black dial. What makes this watch so particularly rare and visually stunning is it has, like the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, silver rings around the subdials giving a spectacular visual image.

That's a REALLY nice piece, and now that ROLEX is using the covid as a market grab, this is clearly "finer" for the true enthusiast..

    GLWS!

    2021...the year we move forward..

    Very true! .....and thank you!

Here's a video overview of the F300 Ferrari to which this watch commemorates.

Some background information on why the "F300" Designation. The F300 was Ferrari's F1 race car in 1998 and driven by Michael Schumacher. It was powered by a spectacular sounding V10 that would rev to more than 17,000 RPMs! Ah the good old days of F1! This was the car that brought Ferrari that much closer to the return to racing domination. Schmacher battled his way to second place in the world championship and Ferrari finished as runners-up in the Constructors' Championship. The car was the base for the dominance which Ferrari would achieve in the following seasons and the rest would be history. The F300 was a critically important car for Ferrari and Schumacher. Now the Rolex is a lovely piece, but it does not have this Ferrari relevance and GP was chosen by Ferrari to represent its brand.

Years ago I was at a cafeteria that was located across the street from a section of Fiorano. We were eating our lunch when all of a sudden we heard the F1 V10. Everyone raced out of the cafeteria. We climbed on the roof of our rental car to watch Schumacher testing the F1 car on Ferrari's track. An experience I will never forget and arguably the best sounding race car of all time. I miss those days, the V10 and Schumacher's absence from the world of Ferrari and F1. I found this video that someone else shot at another track but the experience was similar. Ferrari was a very different company back then.

That was pretty incredible. That was before all today's over the top aero when cars could still slide around and required more driver input and sensitivity (skill).

I will post on the Recovery Thread. Thanks for the suggestion!

I've put in a call to Girard-Perregaux in an effort to determine exactly how many of these watches were produced as this is noted as particularly rare example. Hopefully they respond soon.

Girard-Perregaux just responded after researching the production numbers and they state only 280 of these watches were ever produced. By comparison, Rolex produces around 14,000 of the Rolex Daytona with similar face and circular rings around sub-dials. So not only is this beautifully crafted Swiss watch extremely rare, but its lineage and connection with Ferrari is direct.
