What is the recommended brand and spec of fluid to use in the F1 hydraulic system? Ideally something available over the counter in the US.

That looks like gear oil spec...?

Usually it's an ATF Dex 3 or Dex 4.

I have Redline D4 ATF from a previous car that looks to be a good alternative to the now unavailable shell formula in the manual

The official replacement to the Shell Donax TX listed in the manual is Shell Spirax S4 ATF HDX.

Donax was superseded by the Spirax, but it isn't available in the US

I've never understood why it's so hard to get factory-approved fluids here in America.

Does 'pair' mean two 1 liter bottles for $49?

All items on our site are sold by the "each" unless specifically listed otherwise -- this is per/bottle.

I am really happy Daniel and Ricambi started carrying Tutela CS Speed again. Was almost impossible to find for a while and prohibitively expensive when I found it. Works great and the OEM fluid for many F1 Ferraris, including mine.

F1 fluids are basically synthetic automatic transmission or power steering fluids, but CS Speed is formulated specifically for Selespeed systems

I had a fluid change in my '06 F430 6MT a few months ago, and noticed the synchro action in the first to second shift had deteriorated. I had to keep revs up for a smooth shift, and a slow, unhurried shift resulted in a snicking noise. My mechanic, who does know his stuff, used Shell 1055. Shell Donax is recommended, but unavailable. Any suggestions?

Bruce- Any synthetic 75W90 transmission lubricant/oil should work. Some may need a small dose of limited slip additive if you get rear end chattering. Valvoline and Redline both make good ones. Mine has the Valvoline and no additive.

If your tech put anything besides synthetic 75W90 in there, get it changed quickly.

I have heard of some guys using Redline products in their 360 but not sure which one(s) to use. For the F1 system they have D4 ATF which meets DEXRON II and DEXRON III specs. Then they have D6 ATF which meets DEXRON VI specs. As for the Power steering system, they have those 2 fluids and their own Power Steering Fluid. I am wondering if D4 ATF would be the fluid to use in both? Any suggestions?

@tanzandjan For the F1 Gearbox (612), would you say Mobil1 ATF (Dex 6) would be a trusted alternative to Tutela? I went to Ricambi but it's special order now and Mobil1 ATF is readily available. Specifically the fully synthetic Delvac (which is "made for" diesel) is full syn Dex 6 ATF fluid. Might be a silly question, I think all these fluids are quite similar but will definitely make sure before using anything in a Ferrari F1, I just happen to have tons of Mobil1 Delvac Full Syn ATF around for my trucks.

    Thanks!

If you need a fluid for the power steering, you can use the F1 fluid type, it is a higher spec but can be used in place of that in the book

WOW, this thread is going to get somebody in trouble. It randomly jumps back and forth between the F1 system and the gear Tfor the transaxle but uses names that makes it pretty confusing about what they are discussing.

The F1 system, filled in the back right corner of the 360 Spider, uses a synthetic ATF.
Gear oil is a 75W90 gear oil and is in the transaxle.

These can not be mix and matches.

For f1 ..i did the research back a while and this is what I came up with

    https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mobil-1-Synthetic-Automatic-Transmission-Fluid-1-Quart/143537399?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&&adid=22222222228062655447&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=166152502741&wl4=aud-1028050746218:pla-274082560233&wl5=9003674&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=143537399&veh=sem&gclid=CjwKCAiAhbeCBhBcEiwAkv2cY_1mIFcx2pf1HVY7qPbLFlgADQ8pqLbjajoulo4n7oJ4iv4nwzYhnxoC5LMQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

    That or the redline D4

    For gearbox

The shell 1055 is specially made for ferrari

Ravenol vsg and rotra lsx all good

A lower choice for me would be redline 75w90 NS

And then lower yet (especially for 360 ) mobil 75w90 gear oil

I noticed this as well. However, hopefully all taking on any work on their cars know the “READ CAREFULLY” rule :)

I went and looked at the product spec sheets for Mobil1 Synthetic ATF vs. Delvac Synthetic ATF and they are far enough apart that I will steer clear of the Delvac. The looked at Tutela CS Speed vs Mobil1 Synthetic ATF. Looks like they are very close on a lot of figures, but the large discrepancy on Viscosity ASTM D2270 is making me think let's just go with what the manufacturer is asking for here. Special order on CS Tutela Speed!

Except for the recent additions, this thread was 6 years old. Not sure Daniel at Ricambi even carries Petronas CS Speed now.

Good catch. I usually notice but missed that this time. I think people really overthink the oil issues; particularly how few miles most of them actually get.
