Here we go, a brand new season with an incredibly competitive field and the interesting path for the three high profile rookies from major series, Grosjean ex F1, Johnson ex NASCAR and the Australian touring car champ, what's his name.

Can't wait for the first race this weekend at Barber, Alabama:)!

  3. Better be "close" racing (not necessarily "best") when all the cars are exactly the same.......

Looking forward to it! However, they are giving Johnson too much hype, hopefully that will calm down soon.

Indycar and to a large extent nascar is refreshing from F1 in that any given race you may have 12 or 15 drivers that exchange leads, and have a legitimate chance to win or be very competitive instead of 3, and its generally always the same 3 unless something catastrophic happens early. Hoping for a more exciting F1 season though.

If you have watched any of the IMSA races this year the amount of air time given to him is sickening.

Indy is less predictable than F1 which is why its more "interesting".

My big complaint is that its turned into a spec series.

Why Indy is so "interesting" ?: Because it's a specs series, and those tend to provide close racing.

F1 is more predicatble because being both a drivers and a constructors championship, it quickly shows which cars are the best.

A more exiting F1 won't happen, and F1 has never been competitive compared to oval racing anyway.
We never had 12 or 15 cars capable to win a GP, never. We are lucky to have 3 drivers fighting for the title !
Each F1 era has been dominated by the most advanced cars or the best teams, and the rest have just been participants.

I disagree. When it was Cart it was also interesting and teams would build or highly modify their own cars. The difference now is the cost to run a big team isn't much more to run a little team. In F1 if you have tons of money and resources to throw at it, you can.

I never understood the demise of CART.
CART seemed to have a better product, but maybe it became too expensive.

The era when "money is no object" is over now in F1. All teams will run to a limited budget.
I doubt if that will provide closer racing. The cream always comes on top.

Yes, I know, but the IRL seemed to be a "junior" series when it was launched.
The best teams, the star drivers were with CART.
The only thing missing was the Indianapolis track, I guess.

NBC bumps live quali to streaming? The Captain should have a “chat” with the peacock....

  16. The answer is simple.

The IRL had the 500 (Indianapolis, that is...). The sponsors had to have that in the mix so no matter what CART produced, that's where they went. Obviously the teams had to also.
The "new" masses of uninitiated fans followed.......
I was a CART fan and despised George for what he did, and what we've ended up with. I'm hoping and praying that Rogere can fix it but I'm afraid it's too late as ALL of auto racing is plummeting down the tubes of showdom, not sportdom............:(

So, CART had the series, but Tony George the most famous circuit.
They couldn't come to an arrangement, so instead they split?
It looks like a business war, from where I stand.
The shame is that America' s top racing is now a specs series.

17 cars in the same second in FP2!

Being half Swedish, half French I have five guys to cheer for, almost a quarter of the grid, Marcus second just now, thumbs up!

CART did themselves no favors....well, the owners did themselves but not the sport a big favor, I gue$$...when they went public. Who was that loser they hired to be CEO? Anybody remember?

Foyt, Ganassi, Penske, Patrick, et al. Can you imagine herding those cats?
