Back on the road again!! In nyc for a few days. Kind of eerily quiet in the city, but signs of life abound!! Great travel piece...... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Was just in Midtown NYC for work yesterday - I got there early, but it was quiet. By afternoon, it was hopping. Great looking watch by the way!
I'm not actually "wearing" this watch, I've removed the old strap as it was crummy. This is one of my grandfather's watches, an "Andre Bouchard" 21 jewels. Andre Bouchard was the house brand for E.J. Korvette, one of the original discount stores. I haven't opened this up, but allegedly the movement is from Standard Time Movement, which was owned by Hamilton Watch Company. The story, as I understand it, is that E.J. Korvette sold Hamilton watches under MSRP, which at the time was not an acceptable (or legal?) practice. Hamilton sued, won, and then turned around and offered to make rebranded Hamilton watches for them. Don't know how accurate that story is - but there must be some truth to it. Of the watches I received from my father, this one is in the best cosmetic shape. The domed crystal is slightly scratched and has a crack below the "4" and "5", but otherwise looks great. It winds and ticks, but I've noticed it must have an issue...if I wind it, and put it aside, I can look a few hours later and it's off. @walnut educated me on "beat error", not sure if that's playing a role or if it has some other issue, but it's off. I'm hoping to slap a nice burgundy crocodile watch strap on it and wear it! Need to figure out why it's lagging on the time though, the Gruen 510 I posted earlier doesn't miss a beat in that regard.
Find a reputable watch repair guy and have it overhauled. Probably needs a good cleaning as the oils from that period get gummy after a while when not running.
Not as old - here’s one from 1991 on the way to work today: Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks - 8mi and never have to touch a street except the last push to the building. The BEST part is my son came along with me today. Image Unavailable, Please Login
