And he's 10 times better driver that some world champions....Damon Hill comes to mind, Jacques, Button, Nico, etc, etc...

I think u are underestimating Jacques. Jacques was so good that he overtook MS in portugual and we all know what happened in Jerez when he made the usually cool Michael collapse under pressure.
Jacques made very poor carrer choices afterwards, but in the record books, not urs, he is ahead of his dad.

Jacques was good, undoubtly so...He is underestimated because his car was a second a lap faster than Schumacher's Ferrari. But I wouldn't put him anywhere near the top 20.

In any case, his comments during the broadcasts are often totally excessive and sometimes funny.
    Sympathetic character anyway..

That’s what he is paid for;)
For me he was the hero that beat the vilain Schumacher in 97. I forgave but never forgot what MS did that day.

I can fully understand that. At the time I was so frustrated with the lack of Ferrari victories in the championship that I was ready to forgive Michael’s actions in 1997 ..

    +1 agree

    +1 that's not saying much.

Jacques's first F1 seasons were sensational but Craig Pollock's management was his undoing. He left F1 with his tail between his legs.

I would go as far as saying that Craig Pollock completely ruined Jacques Villeneuve's career.

I wonder if they are still on speaking terms.

No one forced Jacques into the BAR project,
He knew perfectly well that it would be difficult from a sporting point of view but also very lucrative for him and Pollock.
According to wikipedia ( hum), they would have remained on good terms.

He gave up what could have been a great career for a pot of gold.

Unsure that’s true : he was already rich. He confused business and friendship.
If Mika hakkinen is a 2X WDC then for sure Villeneuve could have done it too.
Both were so so in the wet.
98-99 the mercs were so superior the fact that MS and Irvine were so close really show the talent MS had...
Again I think I like MS a lot less than Ham but even if he was an arse boy did he have magical powers in the wet. Spain 96?
I seen some great stuff from HAM but nothing close to this!

A pot of gold that Craig Pollock promised him, together with a new team built around him.

    Big mistake for accepting it.

The FIA were always trying to slow MSC down. I've not yet read any editorial that scrutinizes the heavy and unprecedented FIA penalties for a driver found guilty of "causing a collision".

Drivers have been "causing collisions" since the dawn of F1, but the FIA in '97 created a new book and threw it at MSC.

Pretty obvious what their motivation was :D

    You’re right either,
By applying this retroactive jurisprudence, Senna should have lost the 1990 championship as well.

Yes, and It's not as if MSC gained an advantage either.

The FIA conjures up some bizarre penalties on occasion, depending on the head honcho's agenda ofcourse.

Well it’s different : senna actually gained an advantage taking Prost out, Schumacher failed to do so since he missed his manœuvre...;)

That’s true for all drivers On the grid though, starting with mazepin and I’m not sure given his age how many stick has Charles driven.
That’s why to me old school drivers are better

Have all the feeder series switched to paddle shift?

Most of today's F1 drivers come from F4, F3, F Renault, national series, etc ...
