    I’m checking cam timing ad per wsm on 360 but am having issues on the exhaust cam adjustment. Can the variator effect adjustment? Ie when loosening pulley bolts and rotating cam from rear can variator move inside its housing ? Is the spring inside the variator strong enough to keep it disabled during setting of timing ?

    Cam timing is done when engine is not running. The variator is out of action at that time.

    Understand but when modifying the exhaust timing by loosening the pulley bolts and rotating the cam from the rear end is there a chance the helical gear in the variator can rotate ? Ie is the spring that keeps the variator deactivated strong enough ?
