There-in lies the reason for the difference in price. Although a lot of fixing could be done for the $150,000 difference in price.
    Just saying....

Oh, I agree completely. It is a great car for a show quality restoration project. It seemed expensive for a #4 driver that leaves the garage floor wet, but the buyer didn't seem to mind. As projects go, Ghibli spyders are as rare as hens teeth.

The car had all original leather, carpets and even the soft top was original when I had it. It is a pity the car degraded so much over the last 20 years. Unbelievable that someone would redo the tranny cover in vinyl!
I am confused as to what you mean by "originally USA model converted to Euro mechanically". Did it have a KPH speedo? If you are saying the original USA restrictive manifolds were change to the Euro style then I see that as a positive.

That Ghibli spyder is wonderful old thing, I use to see it at the race track in Sonoma twice a year where the previous owner would be there for vintage racing. It always sat out in the hot sun with the top down all weekend and looked like a car you just hop in and drive without a worry of whether you got mustard on the seat from your hot dog.

I image that the car overheated at some point as everything leaked and from appearances just stayed that way. There were signs of a steady stream of oil from each head.
The car was presented as a time capsule survivor that was worth a premium due to its preservation class status - I just didn't see it. I felt the offer should start with a 5 and not a 6, but alas I was wrong. The leather was faded, the carpets were a bit scruffy, the car originally came with quad exhaust which it no longer has, the original paint is lost, etc.

Indeed the euro headers, cam shaft timing are a good thing and certainly make the car more responsive. I think it has both, the headers were euro.

No, they are rare but this was a prominent owner or a blind buyer.
My car is in excellent condition but I would not rate it that high.

And it is not generally driving better than a Ferrari. A Daytona was much faster but driving like a race car, not comfortable. This is for cruising. If you drive a California it is a bit older but more of a sports car and lots of fun.

Well it seems another long hidden Ghibli has emerged into the light...

    https://www.gullwingmotorcars.com/1972-maserati-ghibli-ss-4.9-coupe-c-4306.htm

nice colours I think. And 5 speed. You have to hand it to Peter Kumar, he certainly has a nose for sniffing these out.
Interestingly, the black almost derelict very early Ghibli pictured by the river, that they were listing last year seems to have been sold.
Let’s hope we see it in better shape in due course

    best to all.

contrary to the listing, this Ghibli is Not a 1972. It’s #2068, it was probably built in 1970.

Not sure why Walter. I just tried it and it was ok. Anyone else have problems??
You can find the car via the Gullwing stocklist , which I am guessing you have probably done anyway by now!

10 days ago at the Highlands, NC Motoring Festival. Bill Warner's yellow Daytona sits next to the Ghibli, followed by a nice Miura and a F40. There were many other really nice cars including a superb 275GTB in a beautiful shade of green , a 250 GT 2+2, an Aston DB5 ......
The Ghibli drove well to and from the event and there was a 6 hour drive the day before where at one time the rains came pouring down. Ghibli top did its job and wife was happy.

AC working well enough too? I don't remember from when I saw this car at Monterey if you've converted it to a modern compressor or not?

The AC works but I do not like using it. Even though the compressor was recently rebuilt I can feel enough vibrations that it concerns me what fatigue it is being placed on the water pump housing. I've seen many broken water pump housings.
Converting to a modern compressor would not work for me as it is very visible on these cars.
It is not big deal as the top is seldom up.

I would appreciate any suggestions for a replacement battery for my 1970 Ghibli 4.7.

    Ivan,

    I chose wrong word "modern"...

I also like to keep car original, but minimize risk of failures,
I have NOS AC hoses, I will install those to the car,
is it possible to install rotary compressor, keep everything else original,
and use RS-24 or other R12 substitute?

    Juha
