So if Ferrari had to to change to from NA to Turbo because of EU regulations, why didn't Lamborghini do the same?

Word is that the next Huracan will have a TT V8 and hybridisation.

New z06 sounds great. Better than any current mid engine Ferrari. Its amazing depending on wich thread you enter, sound is either everything or not everything.

Does it matter?? Take your pick or any, present or past.

    Either way, what's your point?

Lamborghini will likely have to switch to turbos on the huracan replacement but you are right to point out that they will continue producing NA engines, along with the Porsche GT3 at least for the next few years.

Ferrari jumped ship too soon and we missed out on some amazing cars.... likely a reaction to McLaren who started kicking their asses in the performance department. They abandoned their roots and the 488 was born as a result. Now, I will say that the 488/Pista/F8 are all absolutely amazing cars. And in the 488 and Pista’s case (not so much F8) they actually sound pretty damn good for turbo cars.

But, imagine if Ferrari would have extended the life of that NA V8 up till the release of the LB this year? If they had continued development of that engine, who knows, the Pista may have had 660 hp at a mind bending 10,000 rpm redline. I’ll let the engine experts expound further on theoretical limits of the 458 V8, I could be way off on that estimate. But my point stands, we missed out on 5 years of amazing development of one of the last great NA V8 engines because Ferrari decided to jump ship 5 years too soon.

Ferrari also produces a N/A engine, arguably the best in the world.

Glad you asked. Ferrari doesn’t make a mid engined N/A car. But we love to make the age old argument that they are copying Ferrari by making a car that Ferrari doesn’t even make anymore. I’ll admit, they set themselves up for this by using a 458 for comparison and mentioning using the 458 as a benchmark. Clearly they don’t really care. All the manufacturers compare against other makes. Vette doesn’t look like a 458. It has more in common with the huracan really.

We came full circle. It does (to me) look similar and sound like an NA Ferrari (458 ish) and that's what I don't really like. Hence my original comment. Just wished Chevy had done more of their own thing instead of the copy deal.

Either way, I'm not in the market for one, and doubt I'll ever be, so my opinion doesn't matter to them anyway. I'll be able to appreciate the performance of it for what they intend to use it for, but doubt I'll ever buy one.

An accurate assessment, unfortunately most mere mortals will never have an opportunity to own that car.

I’m not knocking the TTV8 that has won engine of the year several years in a row. I’m simply pointing out that there was life left in the NA V8 when it was discontinued and we’ll never have the chance to know what could have been.

I do not think Ferrari went to turbos too soon. They had to to try and keep up. It didn’t seem to hurt sales...they sold every 488 model they could make and they cars continue to sell on the used market.

The sound is not lacking in volume especially if you keep the rev range high. Angry and purposeful. And nice pops and bangs as you floor it and shift high.

My buddy’s C8 had a DCT issue (I guess GM really did benchmark Ferrari). What impressed him was once the issue occurred he received an email from OnStar to contact his dealer to have the issue addressed. Cool technology.
