I’m sure there will be a huge line up Steve...Next big curve ball in Honkers is the cancellation of ALL work permit renewals...This is expected in the coming days to a few weeks...it’s a game changer up here..

Unfortunately it doesn’t affect me JM..I’ve been in this place for nearly a quarter of a century and am a permanent resident...I feel sorry for the many many workers that are on visas...Especially the South Africans as they have nowhere to go back to with young families...
Because so many locals have been displaced by Covid Mike....My son was one of them that had Permanent Residency and all of the Dragon Air Pilots ( it was shut down )...It applies to all companies in Hongkong...I guess they have decided to look after their own across the board in the short term....
What is the percentage of expat pilots these days? Wouldn’t have thought there’d be too many young ones these days?
Most pilots here are expats Karen..The difference is the ones on work visas vs HKG PR ID card holders. I would very roughly estimate about 40% in CX are work visa holders, 90% in HK Express and around 80% in Air HongKong ( these are our subsidiaries). So if the HK government cancel work visas there will be a lot of people that will have to leave HKG…All the guys that I know have come up for renewals haven’t been renewed. They are pending…
Huh, that’s surprising in this day and age...I assumed HK kids would have taken over by now. Mustn’t pay enough! LOL!
It’s not the money Karen otherwise all the kids would be here…The majority of HKG people suffer from high blood pressure , eyesight problems and other lifestyle ailments, so getting through the tough aviation medicals is very challenging…A lot of the HKG locals we have were born overseas…
