I’m going to have to use that line sometime. Hilarious, and well said!

the ones who do not know do not need to
know. 95% know Ferrari, but not many know Pagani. The only difference is that many who knows Rolex can afford one, but not in Ferrari case. There is a strong reason why Rolex spends the most in advertisement, create over one million piece a year and no clear back as the finish cannot be viewed as art, whereas PP makes only 52000 a year. How many does FP Journe makes a year? Less than a 1000.

Yes, it's much easier to impress someone with a Submariner or Oyster than a Nautilus or Royal Oak.
A chart with yearly and total numbers of the most important manufacturers would be interesting.

To be fair, the resale value of Rolex also is the strongest in general with most of its models. Not all PP models can't be said the same even though one belongs in high horology. Wife's nautilus and mom's 24. Although both are rose gold and self winding, they are going to be very different in terms of values in the future, much like a lusso and 458 SA.

Jaeger with 80k production and its exceedingly strong reputation of in house movements that are used by other high horology brands including VC is such a good buy in US.

Lange is my next on the list.

Amazing that Girard Perregaux doesn’t even make the list.

And of course the number of watches and quality of watches make is NOT always correlational. For example, although both IWC and Breitling produce similar numbers annually, the level of finishes are drastically different (even considering the entry level IWC with eta movement). I then wonder the qualifications of watchmakers in different brand. I remember Birkins could only be assigned to person with over 10 years of craftsmanship. Same as Ferrari technician. How does a Toyota technician finally rise to Ferrari shop?

I would even say there is an inverse correlation: Breitling 800 employees for 140'000 watches, Patek 2400 for 60'000 watches... and Greubel Forsey 1:1 !!
